"Everything--from the first contact to the end of installation--was excellent.  The people are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.  Service is punctual and fast.  These people know what they are doing, and their work is flawless.  We had one very minor problem with a new-machine glitch, and the correction was handled immediately.  Tonna Mechanical is a pleasure to work with. <br /> <br />"

"I started this process by doing an in home test with one of those packs you mail in to the labs.  Results came back around the 7s I believe which suggests retesting.  I contacted another company that comes highly rated on this site and told them that I just wanted them to test, wasn't interested in having them do the mitigation as I wanted to have a test professionally done that wasn't going to be biased.  Well, they ended up just coming out and trying to sell me on a $3k mitigation along with plenty of other basement modifications that you could tell were part of their standard sales push from a sales guy that just travelled the area selling, but not doing any of the work.  Well, they ended up leaving me the same in home test I had already used, so I tested and it came back with the same results. <br /> Then after I finally had some time again I figured I'd call Dan at Athelon.  Dan assured me that the tests I used are fairly accurate and that he could come do the constant testing with his $4k machine, but it would cost $100 or something like that.  So I decided to just have him come out and give me a quote.   <br /> This is where you could really see the difference.  Dan, the guy who answered your original call and who you deal with throughout the process is the owner of the company.  That professionalism, experience and no nonsense attitude goes a long ways.  He came out, looked it over.  Told me exactly what they would do and the quote was less than half of what the original quote was for a much better solution. <br /> I signed immediately and he came out about 2 weeks later to take care of it. <br /> When they came out, he arrived just when he said he would at 8:00 and they were done with it all before 11:00.  Installed and running.  He left his fancy continual monitor in the house for the next 3 days and it showed us that the results of the radon mitigation system brought our levels down to .25.  Well below the 4 that is suggested. <br /> I have already suggested him to friends who are considering installing a system as it is nice to finally find a contractor in the area who is professional and affordable! <br />"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"They went above and beyond, telling me the water softener was broken and told the furniture delivery people where to put it when I couldn't get it rescheduled for when I would be there. They kept me informed during the entire process. Very professional"

"Our house was built in 1941. We not only felt we needed to do waterproofing but needed a radon extracting system, sump pump, dehumidifier, wall paneling and new windows with window wells. The project worked like clock work with members of the American Waterworks team. Only have 3 windows and small section of paneling to finish. Paneling can't be finished until new water line is installed. All will be completed when windows arrive. In 1 yr. American Waterworks will come back to check all is working well. Extensive project that wasn't cheap. We felt we got our money's worth!"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Oronoco, MN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
