"Jim Clay gave the most comprehensive quote for our insulation project. He suggested a couple of options which thought would help regulate the temperature in our home. He explained everything that ARC insulators would be doing to our home. He told us about rebates that would be credited to our bill because of a blower door pressure test and gas appliance combustion test. He presented a well-written quote. The technician for the tests and the technicians who did the insulation work showed up on time. They explained everything they were doing thoroughly. When the work was done, we did a thorough walk-thru before the techs left. We are satisfied with the work performed. We are satisfied with the money we paid. We would recommend ARC Insulation to anyone seeking recommendations."

"I recently had Attic Pro of New Lenox, IL install blown-in insulation as an upgrade to my existing attic setup, and the results have been fantastic! My main reasons for doing this were to boost energy efficiency and cut down on those skyrocketing heating and AC bills—our old insulation just wasn’t cutting it anymore, especially with Illinois winters and humid summers. Within the first month, I’ve already noticed a huge difference: the house stays warmer in the cold without cranking the heat, and cooler in the heat. For the first time I am looking forward to seeing my next utility bills. The team at Attic Pro was top-notch from start to finish. They provided highly personalized service and paid incredible attention to detail—inspecting every nook, sealing air leaks, and ensuring the blown-in material was evenly distributed for maximum R-value. No cookie-cutter job here; they tailored everything to my needs. "

"This review was written by my wife, Nina. We chose ARC over its competitors mainly because of Robert, ARC’s sales representative. Robert gave detailed explanations and submitted a detailed proposal of the scope of work. He also was open to negotiate the price. It took 8 hours and a hard working three-man team to do the job. When job was done, the lead man went through the scope of work listing in all details. He showed full knowledge of the flaws and existing imperfections in our house that had been discovered by Robert and listed in the proposal. The lead man and his team were very soft spoken, well mannered, modest, quiet, respectful, and showed perfect professional ethics. Thanks to the lead man we now have a proper venting connection of our bathroom fan. It was poorly done by the GC and missed by the expensive roofers. The lead man redid it. ARC is an integrated team of various specialists. Its painters showed up and fixed spots where the nails popped out a little bit because of the work above. They did this the same day and it looks like those nail pops were never there. We are glad that all electrical work in the attic had been done prior to the insulation because it would be very hard to dig through the deep layers of Nu-Wool (NW) material to install lighting cans or other electrical work. The entrance to the part of the attic above the bedrooms was permanently sealed, though it can be forced open in case of necessity to enter that space. An important topic is the type of insulating material. Homeowners who need new insulation do not have much choice of material because ARC’s competitors also offered the same NW. During his presentation Robert demonstrated NW insulation material, which was pressed in a box. We think that this demonstration is a little misleading. As a matter of fact, the customers receive not pressed NW material but very fluffy, light, and dusty material. It did not settle under gravity for a very long time and stays in the environment for a long time. Eventually it did settle creating a layer of gray dust on all surfaces. Continuous thorough cleaning in the house will be necessary until sedimentation will finally come to an end. It is especially important if you want to insulate the entire space under the roof, including the bedrooms and space above the garage. You do not want to inhale dust during your night's sleep. It is not nice to have NW flying in attic, which you may continue using as a storage space. In this regard we think that air duct cleaning should be done no earlier than a month after insulation. It would be nice, very appreciated, and rewarding to the owners if ARC could offer covering the NW surface to prevent light NW material from flying around. It could be done a month or two later."

"We badly needed insulation in our attic. We got three quotes. Weather Shield was not only the most reasonable, but the only company in which the owner both gave us the quote and installed the insulation with colleague. We could not have asked for more professionalism or better service. Would highly recommend Gus."

"It went really well. Robert Carroll really knows his stuff. Hire this guy. I say that without reservation of any kind. Don't look any further, believe me, I did. This is the smartest guy. He is honest, dependable, offers fair pricing, and his team can do all the work. I got several estimates from A+ rated insulation companies, but Robert was more knowledgeable than the other companies. He was the only one to point out that my soffits were not vented. Apparently, my house was built on the day no one was inspecting. The builder never cut open the soffits. That meant there was zero airflow going through my attic. The attic fan could run all day, but without air to move, it would not do any good. Only Robert noticed this and offered a solution to fix the problem! I asked some of the other A+ companies if they would vent the soffits and they all said they don't do that work, but they would be happy to add more insulation, which would not fix the problem if the attic was not vented."

"PermaSeal is the Best. The consultant clearly explained the options for my project, the scheduling and cost. The installers were on time, explained questions I had about the basement crack sealing and Permafoam installation , completed the project in a timely manner and were friendly. This is the second project PermaSeal has completed for me. I would call them again, for sure."

FAQs for batt, rolled or reflective insulation install or upgrade projects in Oswego, IL

Batt insulation excels in vertical installations because it remains firmly in place and delivers consistent thermal performance. Blown-in insulation performs exceptionally in spaces such as attics, efficiently filling gaps in irregular areas.

Employing both insulation types according to their strengths enhances your home’s overall energy efficiency and comfort by providing a tailored solution for every space.

Start by measuring the square footage of the space, then match that area with the insulation thickness you need to hit your target R-value. Add a buffer for waste and odd-shaped spots so every cavity is covered.

Once you have a rough count, run it past a local insulation pro—their on-site advice will fine-tune the numbers and help you avoid costly miscalculations.

Old insulation that is dry, intact, and mold-free does not require removal before adding new insulation; stacking new insulation over it maintains effective thermal performance and boosts energy efficiency.

If the insulation is damp, moldy, or deteriorated, removal is necessary to eliminate health risks and ensure maximum effectiveness of the new layer. A professional insulation contractor will assess your situation and recommend the most effective solution.

Installing insulation in an average-sized home using batts or boards requires five to 12 hours. Using spray foam or blown-in insulation requires two to five hours. These timeframes are determined by the area’s size, accessibility, and whether old insulation must be removed.

Complex projects and hard-to-reach spaces demand extra time. Hiring an experienced insulation professional ensures that the installation is completed efficiently and correctly.

Insulation is measured by R-value, which defines how effectively it resists heat flow. A higher R-value provides superior thermal resistance, ensuring your home remains warm in winter and cool in summer.

Choosing the correct R-value is essential for maximizing energy efficiency and comfort, and it directly impacts long-term utility savings. Professional guidance determines the optimal R-value for your specific climate.
