"Bates Painting did a fantastic job! They created two custom faux finish colors for our first floor and 1/2 bath. And the distressed country French finish on our kitchen cabinets is exquisite. They were respectful and courteous about cleaning up. They clearly take pride in their craft and the work shows it."

"Joe did a great job on our cabinets. We needed our kitchen cabinets and our built in cabinets updated. When we bought the house they were painted an off white that was chipping and in need of repair. Our cabinets were original to the house that was built in 1991. There was a great deal of wear and tear. They look brand new!! He was able to do them all in a week and was very prompt and meticulous to make sure everything was taped off perfectly. I would hurry up and get on his schedule!!"

"Brogan did an excellent job. They actually obtain materials early. Started on a Wednesday and was done by Friday. The new deck is beautiful. My husband saw a few things with new deck, that needed some tweeking. Brogan was contacted, they came in and made corrections quickly without additional cost. They even installed a percola that, I had purchased. Like I said, Brogan did an excellent job."

"Mission Kitchen & Bath did a great job. Mike was excellent. He works hard and knows what he is doing. When a problem arose, he quickly came up with a creative solution and didn't lose any time or add any cost. He always kept us informed and was very pleasant to have in our house every day. We would definitely use Mission Kitchen & Bath again and highly recommend Mike, Maddy and their entire team."

"We love our new Kitchen. Dech, Ty and Jared were awesome to work with. Dech helped us figure out exactly what we wanted and what could be done and pulled the two together. Whether in person, via phone or email Dech would get back to us immediately. Great open communications! Would we use them again? Yes and we are redoing bathroom vanities. Would we recommend them? We would and have been recommending to all our friends. Dech, Ty, and Jared Thank You!"

"I was pleased with the work. The owner, Curt Coglizer, was good to work with. Cole was the man in charge of the work and he was also good to work with. Luis painted the outside of our house and did an outstanding job. The Pella windows are good quality. The siding and wood rot repairs were also very well done. Overall, Homeworks did a very professional job. We signed a contract in May of 2018. Because Homeworks was very busy, they were not able to start on our house until April of 2019. The work was completed in June of 2019."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Overland Park, KS

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
