"I have used an architect in the past for major renovations at my house. Unfortunately, he passed away so I needed to find a new one for the extensive renovations that I want to do at my rental house. I contacted five architects, all of whom were not interested -- probably because one phase of the project involved expanding the basement. All said that it would be a very expensive and difficult venture. When I told the last architect that I spoke to that I had sketched plans of what I envisioned for my project, his response was that I didn’t need an architect; I needed a designer/draftsman. My search led me to Gary at Kapital Drafting. His background in construction is an asset. He visited the property to talk to us about our vision. In our discussion, Gary suggested instead of expanding the basement that we enclose the patio and create a screened porch and then build a bedroom above. The process went quickly (about 8 weeks) and smoothly. We had two Zoom meetings where Gary presented us with his drawings. He made the changes we suggested in real-time. It was so much fun to watch him make the changes right in front of us. Gary was very responsive to all my calls and emails. He listened to what we wanted and he made it happen. Gary is well organized and he is very detail-oriented. His fees were very reasonable. We paid about one-eighth the amount that one architect had quoted. It was a seamless process from start to finish. I highly recommend Gary and his company, Kapital Drafting."

"I came to Melissa & Bluehouse a number of years ago as I couldn't visualize the layout to accomplish my goals in what began as a kitchen remodel. "Responsiveness was prompt before the sale and an attractive design was proposed for both kitchen and bathroom. After a down payment was provided, service dropped off considerably. The quality of the work was mostly good, but seemed to vary among the work crew. Some areas had to be redone when workmanship was below par. Promises were made before the sale that were not honored afterwards. Any future customers should insist that any promises made should be put in writing using the same description as the promise. Otherwise, they should just assume it was never offered. All purchases for items used in project were purchased through the contractor with fixed allowances without ever seeing an itemized bill. Costs that exceeded the allowance were assessed as an up charge. Costs that may have been under the allowances were never used to offset the up charge, as far as I could tell."

"Rich came out to provide estimate. After we agreed to go with them, he returned with his chief carpenter and supervisor. They discussed with us all aspects of the job. The began on time and worked straight through all day with only a break for lunch.  Bobbie did most of the work. Plumbing and electrical work handled by sub-contractors. Bobbie cleaned up everyday when he was finished. It now looks great!
