"I went through Universal Septic to completely replace my septic field. Let me start with, Eric is very good at telling you everything you want to hear. He gave me an over the phone estimate that was much lower than other companies. When he ran the final estimate, the price went up more than double his over-the-phone estimate. His price was still a little better price amongst other companies I had called. He was very pleasant when I met him and I had no doubts or worries that he would go above and beyond to keep his clients happy. They reconstructed the septic field back in February 2022. On the first day, I was home and I heard a big crash and felt my house shake. His men hit my chimney with one of their trucks and took a good size chunk out of one of the bricks. The job itself took about a week to complete. The men said they would be back out in March or early April for the regrade. Eric also said he would have someone out to repair my chimney. His guys were NOT back in March or april for the regrade. Instead, I had to hound company with emails and phone calls to get them to come out and finish the job they started. Again, they were good at telling me what I wanted to hear. I was told countless times that I was next on the list or they would be out the following week but they did not fix my backyard until mid JUNE. At this point my backyard was a mess! The land was filled with weeds, ruts from the trucks and small sink holes from all the rain we were getting. It was very dangerous to walk on and yet I had to deal with it for months. After the regrade, I had a fence guy come out to help fix the section of fence they took down to get their equipment through. All the hardware that was holding the chain link fence in place was missing and the fence was damaged beyond repair. I had to replace the section completely. Eric warned me they would have to take it down to get their equipment through. He said there would be minimal damage but did not warn me I would have to replace that section completely. It has now been 8 months since the septic field had been replaced and I am still waiting for someone to fix the damage done to my chimney. I am beyond frustrated and hate writing bad reviews. I really wanted to like this company, but I am very unhappy with how the job went and how long it took for Universal to finish the job they started. If you are looking to contract someone out for a bigger job, not just pumping the tank, I would look into other companies."

"Had them come out for a fluctuating water pressure. They came to the conclusion that it was my pressure tank. I had them put it in 4 years ago so it was under warranty. Still cost me $750 for labor under warranty to put in a new one. WOW. They said the old one was no longer available so they tried to get me to pay the $197 difference between the old tank and new one. I voiced my opinion and they did cover the difference. Fast forward 2 days and the problem is still not fixed. Water is still fluctuating and I’m out $750. Was it the tank really?"

When wastewater enters your septic tank, it divides into three parts sludge, water, and scum. Outlet and inlet pipe positions and baffles keep sludge and scum from leaving the tank. Wastewater, the effluent, moves down pipes to the drain field.
If a septic tank is not pumped, it can lead to serious issues. The accumulation of sludge and scum will eventually overflow into the drain field, causing blockages and system failure. Signs that your septic tank needs to be pumped include unpleasant odors around your property, slow draining sinks and toilets, gurgling sounds in the plumbing, and sewage backups in your home. You may also notice standing water or damp spots near the septic tank or drain field. If you observe any of these signs, it's important to schedule a pumping promptly to prevent system failure.
Septic tank odors are typically caused by gases produced during the breakdown of organic waste in the tank. If these gases escape, it can indicate a problem such as a crack in the tank, a clogged drain field, or issues with the venting system. Odors can also result from overflows due to a full tank. You should pump your septic tank every three to five years, depending on factors like tank size and household size. Larger households generate more wastewater and may require more frequent pumping. For example, a family of four with a 1,000-gallon tank may need pumping every three years, while a smaller household with a larger tank might extend to five years.
