"Raecon Plumbing responded quickly and came the same day, but didn't have the right snake to clear the drain. They promised to return the next morning but had to reschedule to the afternoon. Once they came with the big snake, the job was done quickly and the drain was fully cleared."

"They installed an interior french drain and sump pump in one day. They were efficient and cleaned everything up before they left. The system is working great and no issues with water in my basement anymore."

"Honest, ethical, fair, efficient, thorough and meticulous -- these are just some words to describe David Stahl of Stahl Pluming and Drain. My husband and I needed a plumber right away; David came out and has made several repairs; some small, others more major in the past two months and we couldn't have been more appreciative of how great a job he and his workers did. He cares about doing a great job. David is also very personable and easy to get along with. (Example: one Saturday we were having a problem with our tub drain-it was leaking and although he was already on another job that day, he came over around 4:30 p.m. and stayed to fix that problem until it was finished. I TRUST the work he does. We are definitely going to use him in the future. Donna Albert"

"I hired Baker's Waterproofing when a recent plumber found a leak possibly in my foundation and recommended them to me. Baker's initial inspection uncovered that my foundation was built of cinderblocks and was leaking water from the hill behind my home as well as groundwater from below. They scheduled the work and sent out Victor and Miguel to complete a full waterproofing, French drain, pump installation and backup system. From start to finish of this project with Baker's Waterproofing, every person I spoke to was extremely professional, everything was explained clearly and concisely, and pricing was not only competitive, but extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of work completed. Special thanks to the incredibly hardworking, polite, and professional Victor and Miguel. I highly recommend asking for them by name to ensure your work is done quickly but completely."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Pittsburgh, PA

A standard sump pump installation takes two to four hours to complete. The process includes creating or preparing the sump pit, positioning the pump correctly, connecting drainage lines, and setting up electrical components. Installation time may vary depending on your home's specific conditions and whether you're replacing an existing pump or installing a completely new system.

Permit requirements for sump pump installation vary by location. Some municipalities require permits for new installations, particularly when they involve electrical work or modifications to your home's drainage system. It's always best to check with your local building department before beginning installation to ensure compliance with regional regulations and avoid potential penalties.

On average, pedestal sump pumps last 20 to 25 years, while submersible pumps last five to 15 years. However, a manufacturer's warranty can provide guidance on expected lifespan. Consider replacement if you notice unusual noises, frequent cycling, or visible corrosion. Regular maintenance can help maximize your pump's operational life, but replacement is advisable as your unit approaches the end of its expected service period.

Most standard homeowners' insurance policies don't cover sump pump installation as it's considered a preventative measure rather than a response to covered damage. However, some insurers offer additional water damage coverage options that might include sump pump-related protection. Review your policy details or consult with your insurance provider to understand your specific coverage limitations regarding water management systems.
