"They were not satisfied until my radon levels were pretty much annihilated! Very clean install, came back to measure levels, were still a little higher than expected, so came and dug deeper and put in a different fan and that did the trick! Very reasonable pricing and great communication."

Customers say: Quick response

"Mike came out to do Radon Mitigation at our property. We had received quotes from some local companies reaching into 5 figures! Mike not only did the job for a 3rd of the cost, but the radon levels were massively reduced to proper safe amounts. High quality materials used in the work, and he completed everything in one day. He is a super nice guy, who is very experienced at what he does, straight forward, and honest. You can't go wrong, and I would definitely recommend him to friends."

"We had a great experience with Alpha Environmental. From scheduling the service time/date to the end of the crawlspace asbestos abatement was all very smooth and positive. The guys showed up on time, were very polite and cleaned up the area they had worked on. Other companies were more expensive and said they wouldn't be able to reach a certain area because the crawlspace is very tight. Alpha was able to do the entire job and showed us before and after photos. We would definitely recommend Alpha Environmental. "

They answered all my questions, the installation went great and they were able to reduce my radon levels to barely detectable levels. I would recommend this company to anyone needing radon mitigation."

"Roland arrived promptly to the condo and had started before I even got there. He was prompt, thorough and professional in his inspection and communication. The inspection was at 9 AM on a Thursday morning and I got his full report with pictures via email by 10 that night. Roland also sent over the Radon report sunday evening (takes 2-3 days to collect the data)."

"My wife and I contacted James for a home inspection and a Radon test. He answered the phone on the second ring and was willing to give pricing over the phone, which we found more than fair given his expertise when it comes to inspections. Come to find out he has almost 2 decades of experience and it shows. Due to COVID-19, only an inspector and real estate agent were permitted in the house at the time of inspection. After completion, he called and in detail covered all of his findings and took the time to explain how features worked or didn't, (like a hybrid heat system.) He even took the time to educate us on energy efficiency improvements that could be made if we so chose. The next day we received our inspection report which was amazing. We could tell by the details included that he did not just copy and paste from prior inspections. He definitely took the time to make sure everything was well documented. The amount of money that we saved by having a thorough report in purchasing our home was one of the best returns on investments we have ever seen. We will definitely be using Associated Inspection Firm, Inc. in the future."

"The inspector did a very good and thorough job of pointing out the deficiencies in the roofer's work, and his report was instrumental in my obtaining a settlement against the contractor. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Portland, OR

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
