"I contacted Applied Mechanical about a problem I was having with my 18 year old air conditioner. It is the upstairs zone in my house. The tech (Mike) came out that day and determined I had a leak. Although they could have recharged the system (about $500) he said it could leak out very quickly and being that it was a very old system he recommended it be replaced. I agreed. I got 2 estimates. Steve, the owner, came out the next day and spent a lot of time going over the old system, taking pictures and making notes. He made some good suggestions. Since the entire system (furnace, indoor coil, plenum as well as the outdoor unit) was very old and to obtain maximum efficiency and warranty he suggested replacing the entire system with a matched Trane system. They sell Trane units. My old unit was a Carrier but from experience I felt a Trane unit would be a better choice. Steve got back to me via email in a couple of days with a very detailed 9 page proposal. Impressive. Everything was spelled out. All the pictures were there and details about the step-by-step process of how they would be replacing the units. He provided an option if I wanted to upgrade the unit. All model numbers and specific features were included. I appreciated that the first thing they do is put down floor covers to protect flooring. In contrast to Steve's proposal I received one other estimate from a Carrier dealer. It was a very short 1 page estimate with few details. Even though it was about $1,000 cheaper I wasn't sure what I would be getting. After agreeing with Applied Mechanical Steve ordered the system and we set up an appointment for install. He said it would take 2 days to install. Mike and Cory arrived early Thursday and by 2:30 Friday we were up and running. They did a terrific job. (They never complained about the oppressive temps up in the attic). Kept me informed about what they were doing. Very neat and orderly. Readily answered any of my questions. Also, they installed a new thermostat and programmed it for me. Now we have a nice variable speed blower with a 2-stage gas furnace. And an icy cold air conditioner. When they were done they checked each room for air flow and balance. They checked each vent for temperature. Very thorough. When they were done they cleaned up and it looked like they had never been there-except we were much cooler. Thanks guys!
In order to keep the warranty valid you have to have the unit serviced every 2 years. Steve explained that when they come out it is a very detailed and thorough tune-up-about 4 hours. I think that is a good service. Also, Steve honored the 5% off Angies list coupon.
Finally, let me say that it is nice to deal with a company that tells you what they are going to do and when they are going to do it. And keeps their word. Also, there is no pressure to up-sell. No fancy add-ons or exotic "must haves". Steve, Mike and Cory are skilled at what they do and enjoy doing it. When my downstairs unit goes down I know who to call."
