"Jeff and his crew did a great job upgrading the electrical panels at my 6-unit apartment building. The whole experience from start to finish has been exceptional and would highly recommend Cooper Electric for any of your electrical needs. Jeff's bid for the work was very competitive compared to the other bids I received. Jeff coordinated with SMUD and the City of Sacramento Inspection/Permit Department to complete the electrical panel upgrades, power shutdown and final inspection in just one day. Jeff was personally involved throughout the entire project and kept me informed on all ongoing activities."

Small jobs welcome

"Wes did a whole house re-wire for me. He was very communicative and offered a variety of options and solutions for different complicated situations. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout the whole project and I never got the feeling he was trying to upsell me like I’ve had in past experiences. I won’t use any other electrician and would recommend him 10/10 times."

"Hands-down the best contractor I’ve ever worked with. My old panel was a fire hazard, and these guys turned it into a modern, safe setup in one clean afternoon. Showed up on time, explained everything without jargon, and left the place spotless—no drywall dust, no mystery wires. The new breaker box looks pro-level, and my lights haven’t flickered once since. Fair price, zero upselling, and they even double-checked my grounding before they left. If you need electrical work done right, call them—you won’t regret it. Five stars, easy."

"Jason responded quickly to my call. He replaced the electrical panel in my home. Jason was courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. He seriously knows what he is doing. He communicates well and was able to explain to me (a very non technical person) what was happening. I would definitely hire him again."

"I called Sparky Electric because I was getiing shocked by two kitchen appliances. Cristian said this was an emergeny and came over in two hours. A switch under the kitchen sink was shorting and made the appliances pluged in to become HOT. He repaired everything that was wrong. I believe he probably saved my life as I was that close to being electrocuted. Afterwards, he reviewed our complete setup on our older house. Our electrical panel was way outdated and we had no gfi outlets were water is. We replaced it all and the price was more than fair based on other estimates. Cristion and his brother were Pros and and got us up to code. Wife feels safe now. SMUD did all inspections and approved of everything. If I could ge them a 10 I would."

"After the first Technician being a "No Show". Jonatan came out and the impressed me; because, he didn't just try to make money off us. When Jonatan came out I told him about an on going problem with a "Flickering Light" in my Guest Bathroom; and, upon further inspection we found out that there was some wiring insulation that had overheating. We also found about that there is an electrical line had being shorting out under our mobile home. He is well worth what ever we paid him."

Customers say: True professional

"Job was good and completed on time and as expected. Not sure if the charges were high, because the prerequisites like conduit to the panel and outlet provisions inside the garage were already in place when the home was built."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Rio Linda, CA

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
