Hello, I am James Gibbs, sole proprietor of JG Carpentry. I have been building, repairing and renovating homes in Essex county for over 30 years. My primary goal is to satisfy my customer's needs and budget. I work alone, so I only take on smaller jobs as this allows me to focus on getting things done quickly and efficiently. I hold an unrestricted Construction Supervisor's License and Home Improvement Contractor license in MA and am fully insured. I am experienced in all aspects of residential construction, specializing in interior remodeling and custom built-in installation. I am willing to work with older homes, repairing ill-fitting doors and windows, squeaky stairs and floors, etc. I spent 6 years as a construction foreman in the film industry, and am always willing to take on creative or unusual projects. All my work is done in accordance with local building laws, and all jobs must have a contract signed by both parties before work can begin. No plumbing or electrical work.

The front entrance looks great and works great. I will call James for any work I have in and around my house as he does excellent work."

The project (yard drainage, pavers) took months and is still a full mess! Attached are photos- I was gaslighted stating that I was ?impossible to please? and would ?never be happy?- judge the work for yourself! Project was over $40,000 and this is what they found acceptable! If you still choose them (?) then make sure an attorney reads anything you sign as every minuscule detail must be written or they will not take any responsibility! And read financing terms very carefully as they scroll through the contract speaking but the content does NOT match what they spew! Then the threats start demanding approval for the terrible, incomplete job. You?ll be ignored and ghosted once they get their money after placing in writing the modifications that will (not) occur!"

"Signed contract on May 8 for deck build.On May 12 rep came to my office to collect deposit of apprx $13,000. He said project team meeting on Wed & would update me then on start date etc. On Fri May 16 I had to reach out to him. He wrote the team had met & materials were ordered. An hour later he wrote back that he was misinformed & that his boss was going to call me next week. Despite this, dep check cashed. On Mon 5. 20 rep wrote back that they had forgotten certain costs & to proceed it would be $8,000 more. Not a typo. $8,000 more. No apology. Ridiculous, contract rescinded. I wrote that he could return my deposit at my office just as he had collected it. On Wednesday the 21st I got a text from "Tom," presumably the owner/boss, saying he would "drop a check in the mail" to my address. Today is May 30th, Friday, and still no check. Check at a minimum should have been overnighted. They owe me interest not to mention the deposit to hire a contractor who will honor contract. Bad."
