"Paul and Cesar did a beautiful job laying new tile over the old tile shower floor. Everything was sealed and the tile layout just pops. It looks brand new. We couldn't be happier. Would recommend them and use them again."

"Oscar runs his company, RH-Redo House, with the utmost of integrity. From the initial consultation, to the finished product, Oscar and Leonardo worked with precision and skill to install our porcelain tiles and baseboards. The beautiful result is due to the care and craftsmanship of Oscar and Leonardo. We never had to worry about removing/reinstalling appliances, and Oscar picked up materials as needed. The work areas, inside and out, were left spotless. We will hire Oscar for any future home project. Anyone would be fortunate to have a home project completed by this honest, skilled, hard-working man."

"Jim installed ceramic tile over old brick around our fireplace. His tile layout was thoughtful with a good aesthetic sense. He worked cleanly, accurately, and efficiently together with Manuel. We are more than happy with the final result and would definitely hire him again for similar projects!"

"Excellent. We replaced a wood burning fireplace with a gas fireplace. We asked the company to see if they could remove the old tile without damaging it, a tricky task requiring some finesse. They managed to do that very well, and we were able to clean the old tile and have them place the tiles around the new fireplace which required a lot of precise cuts to fit the new fireplace size. They did a great job, and replaced/repaired and textured the sheetrock surrounding the fireplace. The workers were very neat and cleaned up everything when they finished. Highly recommended"

FAQs for tile: ceramic and porcelain repair projects in San Francisco, CA

People use the terms refinishing, resurfacing, and reglazing interchangeably. Refinishing is a process that repairs old tiles and gives them a fresh new coat of finish. This is also called tile resurfacing or reglazing.

Yes, you can refinish tiles as a DIY project, but it’s important to follow all the steps involved. These include the following:

  1. Clean the tiles or hire a local tile cleaning service to remove all the residue (soap film, oil, grease, and dirt).

  2. Etch the tile to ensure the refinishing solution adheres properly.

  3. Fill in any cracks or chips in the tile.

  4. Recoat the grout.

  5. Repair any missing or damaged caulking where applicable.

  6. Apply the refinishing product, primer, and enamel.

Your newly reglazed tile should last between 10 and 15 years with proper installation. However, higher-traffic areas and moisture may result in a reduced life span. Explore the cost of different tile types to determine which material works best for your home and needs.

Your bathtub and tile refinishing cost will likely seem like a small price to pay for the transformation it offers. Provided your tile and grout are both intact, refinishing will bring a brand-new style at a fraction of the cost.

Yes, most ceramic tile is paintable with specific epoxy or tile paints. However, you’ll want to avoid areas of heavy use or moisture, such as countertops, showers, and bathtubs. Paint can crack, bubble, or wear away over time, especially on floors.
