"Work took 1 day, but floors remained wet, sticky, streaky, and discolored for weeks, requiring a return visit and never fully curing as promised. I hired this provider to lightly sand and restore specialty DuChâteau Terra Collection Panga European ash hardwood floors (wire-brushed) using an oil finish, as clearly stated in the written contract and text messages. Preserving the original wire-brushed texture was a key requirement. After completion, the floors immediately showed serious issues: they remained sticky for an extended period, scuffed extremely easily, transferred pigment onto socks and clothing, and significant lost color within weeks. I later learned the contractor applied a wax-based finish instead of the agreed oil finish rubio monocoat, without my consent. In addition, stain was splashed onto baseboards and kitchen cabinetry, which were not properly masked or protected during the work and are now visibly marked. When I raised concerns, the contractor provided inconsistent explanations (including stating oil finishes are illegal in California), blamed the dark color choice, and offered conflicting resolutions first stating he would fix the issue at no cost, then requesting additional payment, and later offering a refund only if I signed a release of liability. Multiple independent flooring professionals have since confirmed the wax application was inappropriate for this flooring and that remediation now requires aggressive sanding, with a high risk of permanent loss of the wire-brushed texture. Several companies initially declined the job due to wax contamination. Only half of the home was refinished, creating a risk that the repaired flooring may never match the untouched original floors. I attempted to resolve this directly and professionally, but due to the extent of damage and lack of trust, I filed a formal complaint with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). "

Customers say: Terrific value

"Phil from Oak Wood Floors was very quick to respond to my request for quoting the job. He scheduled and completed the job well within my expectations. Phil and his help were very friendly and professional. While he held to his phone quote, he had to add to this quote because of unforeseen termite damage. Though this was not too surprising given the amount of damage, what was surprising was his very reasonable final charge. The quality of his work was well beyond reproach and deserves applause and a great big THANK YOU. I definitely would rehire Phil for future projects."
