"Sid has done some work for me before, and he is always prompt, professional, and friendly.  This time he installed three curtain rods for me in addition to hanging a large mirror on the wall.  He was very careful to make they were mounted exactly where and how I wanted them, and I am very pleased with how everything turned out.  He has a lot of attention to detail, and is very careful and deliberate with measurements, which I appreciate.

"Bill and another painter came to the house the day prior to the date the house was to be painted.  There were four rooms to be painted and all had 11' ceilings including a picture rail.  They used blue tape and a vast amount of plastic to cover everything.  The next morning a crew of 4 painters including Bill showed up promptly.  The job started a 8:00am and was finished at 7:00pm including cleanup.  They applied primer and two colors coats on the walls and ceilings.  The were two colors used on the walls with an accent color for the picture rail.  The crew never seemed to slow down or stop except for lunch.  All the painters were friendly and assisted each other in a team effort.  It took two painters most of the day to paint the kitchen.  We will be calling them back to do the other rooms in the house.  The cost of the job was as estimated.  Very good good for a very reasonable price.

"We are so happy with his work!  The shower is wonderful, tiles look great, and he even put in detail in the shower!  We also chose a hexagon 1 inch tile for the floor and he did a great job lining them up and grouting them evenly.  He was professional, cleaned up every day, listened to what we wanted as well as offering suggestions, and got the job done on-time and on-budget.  We will definitely call Dragan for our next project!

"They came out to give an estimate right before Christmas. After the holidays, I remembered that I ordered windows through this company. It turned out that they'd lost my order. Within two weeks, they'd solved the problem, but we wondered if they would have noticed, in the case we hadn't notified them.

The work was done well."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in San Martin, CA

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
