"Earlier in the day, I had made an appointment with Service Professor to have the disposal installed. I had everything organized and ready to go. All they had to do was take out the old one and put in the new one. Under the sink was cleared, the pipes were fine, and everything was ready. Regardless of my preparations, they charged me a service call fee of $59 and wanted to charge me another $300 for the installation. I called Budget Plumbing and did not have an appointment. Ryan, the owner, arrived in the early afternoon with a garbage disposal in case I did not have one. He went to work immediately, had the old one out in minutes, took the cord off of the old one to save me money, and installed the new one. Everything was done in less than an hour at a cost that was less than $150 and well within my budget. He guaranteed his work and said he would come out if there were any problems. He also tested the installation to make sure that it worked. Each item I paid for was a line item and there was not any fee for coming."

"The estimate was accurate and the service was professionally completed during a plumbing emergency. One consideration to be aware of is that they do not finish any drywall after installation. They did let me know in advance so I could plan on that work."

"Integrity Plumbing and Mechanical completed the job on schedule and in a professional manner. The building had already been prepped for the Sunday service, so on Saturday I returned to inspect the work and clean if needed. I actually had to look to see if a new toilet was installed because they left no "construction trail" anywhere. The building was as clean as they found it. I would highly recommend this company and will use them again in the future."

"The filtration system that we had was leaking.  In my own research I determined that it was a fairly rare system with very little information about maintenance or repair available on the internet.  Tom came out to look at the system and then did some research.  He determined that the flush valve in the system was broken and there were no repair parts - only a full replacement for $650.  He also offered a replacement of the system with a filter system that was more common/standard - installed for $450.  He was able to do the job the next day, completed the work quickly and at a cost less than his quote, and left us with an easier to maintain system that provided the same quality of water from the well and better water pressure throughout the house.  Overall it was a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Tom and Affordable Plumbing. <br />"

"They have done a variety plumbing tasks for me over at least 10 years and two different houses.  Tasks ranging from steam boiler work, toilets, washer hookups, hot water heater, etc.  I have always been very happy with them.  They are a small company so you get personal service and I've never had any sort of problem with the work they did."

"I turned off the shower one night and the hot water wouldn't stop flowing out.  I called Francis Lising first thing in the morning and he was at my house within a couple of hours.  He explained my options, gave me an estimate, and I asked him to go ahead with the work.  The work was completed promptly and I have had no problems with the work he performed.  <br /> <br /> Mr. Lising has also completed other projects for me, always without any problems.  He has installed a hot water heater, sump pump, and two toilets in my home.  Each time, he has been prompt, professional, and the work was done right.  So I keep calling him for my plumbing projects!  <br /> <br /> I first found Mr. Lising in a neighborhood newspaper listing.  I called several plumbers to get quotes for the replacement of my hot water heater.  Mr. Lising wasn't the lowest quote, but he also wasn't the highest, and he is a master plumber, so I was willing to accept a middle bid from him, and I'm glad I did.   "

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Sand Lake, MI

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
