"Absolutely amazing experience. My home radon levels were averaging 5.0 pCi/L. Two days after Edward and his team finished the mitigation job the levels went down to 0.3. Incredible result. I can’t be happier."

"Chris Lowe with Imperial Home Inspection was fantastic. He showed up on time, and did an overly thorough inspection. He stayed longer than he needed to, explaining things in non-technical language when he got the sense that my partner and I didn't quite understand something. He was professional, friendly, polite, and I would 100% recommend him to anyone. <br />"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Mike was right on time, both times, and did the testing in a speedy and comprehensive manner. The initial testing he went above and beyond and identified several issues that need to be addressed that had nothing to do with the mold at all. I would use him again, and recommend him without hesitation."

"I have worked with Chuck and team on a couple of occasions.  The latest call was to check the content of building materials that were disturbed during some home updates. They came out, took samples, and provided results the next day.  They have always been great and work to get services completed as quickly as possible, which is really important when you don't know what you are dealing with.  They respond to issues faster than most companies return your initial call.  I'd recommend them to anyone looking to get their home tested.  And should the need arise again, I would certainly call on them. <br />"

"Eddie and his team were extremely thorough and technical in the work that they did. Arrived on time, even called me a few minutes before they arrived to give me a heads up! Eddie is one of the kindest people I've ever met, not to mention he had a great sense of humor! They were incredibly clean and time efficient, answered any and every question I had. They reduced my radon levels from a 9.5 to a 0.5. If anyone needs work done, I highly recommend Healthy Home Construction Services."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Santa Barbara, CA

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
