"The report was incredibly detailed with pictures, remarks and highlighted trouble areas. He provided a list of things that needed attention right now (along with a rough estimate of cost) and some things that just needed maintenance. I now have a list of things I need to have taken care of and other things I can do as time permits. <br /> Paul had the report to us by the evening of the day he made the inspection. The report was well worth the money and will be handy to have as we move into our new home. A very good information investment to have from a well rounded and highly qualified professional. <br />"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Randy performed a home inspection and a radon test on a duplex in Kalamazoo that I was planning to purchase as an investment.  I live in another state, and although I had viewed the duplex once, it had been a quick run through with the real estate agent.  Randy's report was extremely thorough.  It covered the building and the site comprehensively, and was well illustrated with photographs.  It contained estimates of the costs of required repairs.  After sending me the report by email, he spent a considerable amount of time on the phone with me to answer my questions and explain the basis of his estimates.  The report was quite an eye-opener, and although it didn't tell me what I wanted to hear he did tell me what I needed to know, and  I'm certainly glad he didn't sugarcoat the problems.  The building needed far more work than I had anticipated.  As a result, I cancelled my offer and decided to look for a property in better condition.  Randy's report spared me from years of fretting about conditions I couldn't afford to correct and from sinking money into an investment that wouldn't have shown any profit for a decade or so.  I recommend him highly to anyone purchasing property in the area.  Look before you leap!  Better yet, let Randy look. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Scotts, MI

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
