They were the most attentive and considerate companies I approached which is why I went with them. We couldn't get the time of day from other fireplace stores. These guys were right on the ball from the start. Spent a lot of time going over the different stoves and options that go with them all. The installation was scheduled and went very well. Installers were very thorough and clean. This was a complete installation, needed the chimney as well as the stove. Everything was done perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Recently, the stove I picked had a recall and I was informed and updated by Scott as soon as he had news. This actually went on for a couple of months but Scott would contact me every couple of weeks and let me know what was going on. When the replacement part came in, they scheduled the work IMMEDIATELY and I met Jon, one of the senior techs and installers. Jon was on time, meticulous and thorough. Very clean and organized as you would expect a master craftsman to be. The repair went very well and made my stove run better than ever before. When your happy with a job someone does for you, you hardly ever write a review but something turns sour, people can't write one quick enough. When I need something done, I go online and read all the awful reviews of probably great companies so I do not hire them. This review is for all of you that are like me and come here to get the low down on a business. Do not hesitate to go with South Shore Fireplace. It is very hard to find craftsman who really care about what they do and also so nice to deal with. South Shore Fireplace will be my go to guys for the rest of my life. "The crew arrived on time and did a thorough job. The reason this rating isn't higher is because the crew chief had been in my house no more than 10 minutes before diagnosing what he said was a dangerous level of creosote in our chimney and recommending installation of a $1,000+ chimney liner, which his company would of course be happy to sell us. I said no, thanks. The next year I hired another service - Emener ([*** Link removed ***] - which told me that the chimney was actually in good shape and pretty clean considering how much we use the fireplace. 5 Star clearly used its promotional offer as a way to upsell an expensive add-on that I am now convinced wasn't needed. Beware of deals that look too good to be true."

"They did a GREAT job! They first ran into permit problems in Brookline, but Rich (?) was able to fix that and didn't charge me extra. Then on the day of the work, they showed up and worked through to the next day and removed the whole chimney from the inside without making a dent in the house. I was MOST impressed with this as I have 2 small children so dust is a big deal to me. Since they are so prompt and efficiently, i was able to coordinate with my roofer to come in on the same day to seal up the roof. At the end of the day, you couldn't even tell that someone had removed a chimney just minutes before. Highly recommended!

"Our chimney needed to be rebuilt from the roof up. We called Carl for an estimate and he sent someone out who gave a free verbal estimate of $1300.00. We scheduled the work and were told they would come out to do the project as soon as they could, as there were other projects ahead of us. The work was completed during three consecutive days by the same gentleman who came out the first time to give the verbal estimate. On the third day, when the work was completed, Carl's worker stated he would be collecting a check from us that day. He then asked what we were quoted on the formal estimate from the company. This came as a complete surprise to us as the only estimate we had ever received was the free, verbal estimate when he first visited our home. He then told my husband he was under the impression the total for the work came to $1800.00 and then he called Carl to confirm. Because of the miscommunication, Carl agreed to charge us $1350.00. This was a positive aspect in our dealings with the company, although they could have been more communicative and clear regarding a formal estimate in the first place. After the work was done, we noticed a lot of debris on our roof, including broken bricks and mortar from the old chimney. We also noticed that a large piece of mortar/cement had been left under our back deck as well as had been spread over parts of our foundation. We are assuming this was extra and the worker was trying to dispose of it. We also never received a receipt for the work. We should have asked for one when we gave him the check, but we were going out of town and were in a rush. Therefore, my husband called Carl multiple times the next week. Carl never answered his phone and his voicemail box was full every single time. My husband also sent an e-mail to the address listed on the company's website, detailing our concerns: 1) no receipt, 2) debris on the roof, and 3) a free cleaning of the chimney which had been part of a verbal agreement -- and my husband never heard back. Due to their unresponsiveness and the mess that was left at our home, we have given up on contacting this company and will be using a different company for any further chimney repairs or cleanings in the future."

"The owner told me he would point areas of the chimney and did not until I called back and had him return. When he did return he did a sloppy job and used non matching cement which makes my chimney look like it was done by an inexperienced slob. In addition after inspecting it more closely in November I realized he missed a lot of areas. I patched the rest myself and did a far superior job (and I have never done this work in my life!) The cap looks good and the crown is done but the re-pointing was a real disappointment"

"I needed 2 dryer vents cleaned - one on the 2nd floor and a vent cap replaced (also on the 2nd floor). All the companies I initially contacted would not do the job for a variety of reason. Superior did all the work I needed plus replaced the dryer hose on one unit (which we had not discussed). Additionally, I had purchased a vent cap but it did not fit. Superior had one on the truck which did fit and they got the job done! Excellent service!"

They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."
