Small jobs welcome

"Hired John to install laminate countertops. He was very responsive prior to the job starting and gave me all the detail on the scope of work required. He was on time the morning of the job and got started right away. John went above and beyond during the installation to make sure the counters were installed correctly and also fixed many of the issues that were present from the old counters. His attention to detail was very evident once the countertop job was complete. He did an excellent job and I would hire him again. Nice guy who does great work!"

"Tyler was amazing! I smelled urine in the basement and couldn’t figure it out. Tyler came out the next day and found a leak in our toilet. That smell unfortunately ended up being urine which ate through the wood paneling under our bathroom floor tile. He replaced the needed wood panels, put all new flooring in, replaced the toilet and popped in a new vanity all with in just 2 days. Thanks Tyler!"

"Extremely well! Troy is very detailed oriented, so he makes sure not to cut corners. Before we found Troy, we had other box store installers refuse to take up the old laminate, while acknowledging the likelihood of bumps and bubbles without pulling up. Troy didn't flinch! He knew it was best to remove the old stuff and start with new sub-flooring, even if it meant the job would be more difficult for him. Troy finished in a timely fashion, and it's beautiful...no bumps or bubbles!"

"We just completed a project to gut and remodel our kitchen. I will (and already have) highly recommend him to any family or friend looking for a reliable and trustworthy contractor for any home improvement project. We did several projects over the years and have had some horrible experiences. They were so bad that we held off on redoing the kitchen until it was literally falling apart. I did a lot of research and met with several contractors before deciding on Ed. His price estimate was reasonable and right in the middle of the pack. He time estimate was 3 weeks and I was initially dubious that the project could be completed in that time frame. He actually completed the project in 2.5 weeks which exceeded my expectations. I believe a major reason is that Ed has excellent project management skills. He tasked us with homework before he would start the project. We finalized the cabinet selections, countertop, tile, flooring, appliances, etc. before a hammer was lifted. This ensured that there was no wait time once the project started. He would email us at the end of each day to tell us what was accomplished and what was the target for the following day. Outside of email communications he was also prompt in his replies to text messages and phone calls when I needed to talk to him. He and his crew came every weekday and were on time *every single day*. There was a day that was snowing. Ed pulled up about half an hour earlier than usual. He arrived earlier because he was afraid that the road conditions might make him late. It was a perfect example of his professionalism and commitment to his work. In addition to having a beautiful new kitchen, I feel fortunate to have finally found a contractor that I will continue to use for any future project. It seems he has a lot of repeat customers which is a testament to the quality of his work and trustworthiness as a contractor."

"Bill is an attention to detail guy. He’s responsive and cooperative when you have ideas or asks and we had plenty of them. First project....remodeling a room over our garage to become my wife’s pottery studio with a small beer brewing nook for me. What a space!! A far cry from the boiler room basement. Other job was replacing two poorly engineered decks on the front and rear of our house. All Aztec now...Goodbye rot!!"

FAQs for laminate countertops installation projects in Shelton, CT

With the right care and a professional installation, laminate counters last 10 to 15 years. Wipe up spills quickly, clean with a nonabrasive product, and keep hot pots off the surface to prevent warping or scorch marks. Limiting prolonged moisture at seams also pays off. Your installer can walk you through simple maintenance habits that will help you squeeze every year out of your new counters.

Yes—if the existing laminate is solid and level, a pro can bond a fresh sheet right on top. They’ll rough up the old surface, apply the correct adhesive, and make precise cuts so the new layer sits tight. Skipping steps can lead to bubbles or weak seams, so this project is best left to an experienced installer who has the tools to deliver a clean, durable finish.

Absolutely, you can give tired laminate a facelift with paint, tile, or a concrete overlay instead of a full tear-out. The key is thorough prep: clean, degrease, and lightly sand so the new finish sticks.

Follow the product instructions for primer, sealers, and cure times, or hire a pro if you’d rather avoid the mess. When done correctly, these updates freshen the look and add a few more years of useful life.

Mix baking soda with just enough water to form a paste, then spread it over the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Wipe away with a soft, damp cloth—don’t scrub, as abrasives can dull the surface. Repeat if needed. For stubborn marks, ask your installer about cleaners made specifically for laminate.

Laminate isn’t built to battle the elements. Water, UV rays, and temperature swings quickly cause swelling, fading, and mold. Even a covered patio won’t protect the material for long. If you’re planning an outdoor kitchen or bar, skip laminate and choose a weather-tough option like stone, tile, or concrete so you don’t end up replacing your counters after the first season.

Traditional laminate isn’t the greenest choice. Most sheets rely on plastics like melamine and can emit trace VOCs over time. They also can’t be recycled at the end of their life. A few brands now use recycled pulp cores, but plastics still make up much of the product.

If sustainability tops your list, consider natural or recyclable materials such as solid wood, stone, or recycled glass instead.
