"We love our cabinets! They look fantastic while remaining affordable. The friendly staff at AWD helped us from start to finish. They are very knowledgeable and gave us advice and tips when needed. They were receptive and patient with our ever-changing needs. Once we finalized our purchase, we received our cabinets within two weeks! The cabinets are very sturdy and the color is beautiful. The hinges and hardware are high quality. We are extremely pleased with AWD and would recommend them to any friends or family looking for good cabinets at a fair price."

"This is going to be a long and highly affirmative review. We knew 4 years ago we would renovate. We could not find a salesman that would really listen to our needs, design ideas and requests. Both of us previously had full equipped kitchens when we married. We kept everything because we liked it all. So our kitchen was VERY crowded. Our Remodel sales man : Chris Macey, actually listened and provided what WE wanted. Finally we had a place for everything. Now everything slides out w/ quiet close. A unique special addition was the "interior bay window". A window garden perfect for flowers, fresh herbs and spices and perfect for us. We finally had enough working spaces (5) for both of us to work in the kitchen simultaneously (gasp!). Even the dog has a feeding station. we have a dedicated "coffee station." I knew this job was going to be expensive, That's OK, we got top quality everything. Our Project Manager: Martin Slusarz, contacted us the next day to arrange for a meeting to review our selections and sign a contract. He offered some design insights that enhanced the concepts we had. He suggested we move the refrigerator across the room. It worked better for the over all design. So listen some times. Our top choice of cabinet design, hardware, pluming, 60-40 Sink, Marble counter tops, new LED recessed lighting sources in ceiling and under cabinets lights w/ individual control, outside exhaust Vent system, Prime glass Back Splash and Paint. It was all covered in specific detail and it hung together well as design. The Workers: Francisco, Crew head, Jose and Adam. I am really pleased with my crew. They were pleasant, industrious, skilled in the right way to do things. I know because I have 30+ years in construction and I know what should be done. The guys were like a ballet of skilled workers. Some times they would just get going and work as a team without speaking. I would sit in the next room (holding the dogs leash) and be able to watch their progress. They would keep in touch with calls, letting me know what their arrival schedule was for that day. I would make a daily to do list of questions and process. That was reviewed and my questions were answered. I am still very impressed with my crew. The down sides: There were a few schedule glitches in the process. The special order interior Bay Window was back ordered for weeks. Martin does not start a project until all the parts are in the shop. That kept the project on hold until after the New Year. We had a place for working storage. Demo was scheduled and it took only a few hours to empty out the space. Amazing. Just stay clear and let 'em work. FYI The install worked from the top down. All the upper cabs then the floor units. Electrical and Lighting were done at the same time. Once the lower cabs were installed the marble counter man came in to measure. Then there was a day or two break waiting for the custom counter top to come in. Surprise, they called on Friday evening asking if they could install the counter top on Saturday. Two guys did the marble counter top install. Flush, level, perfect work on a Saturday morning, The bay window arrived a few days later and it was delivered and installed by a specialist from the company. It was fun to watch it go in. Then the glass back splash was extended into the bay window and that became a cost plus item. Final comments: The Job is high quality, simple clean and understated design. Now everything has a home and somehow the Kitchen seems much bigger. That still amazes me. Double the cabinet space but more room? We are really please with the whole project. It was definitely not the low bid and I am quite glad we went with top/shelf, high quality everything. My brides final comment is she wants to adopt our crew. Offer your crew morning coffee and a clean place to eat lunch. That type of simple kindness pays off. Expe..."

"In short....very satisfied.

In  late November, we purchased a house  which we absolutely loved from every angle but the most important part of the house( the kitchen) was quite dated and the hard wood floor had sun damage. Floor had contrasting color in areas covered by rugs and exposed to sun. We decided to get both these things done before we move in between Christmas and new year in so,  we contacted various contractors who were recommended to us. They all came, looked at  the project / projects, promised to send a quote in 5-7 days and then just disappeared on us leaving us waiting to hear from them. Soon we realized that it was hoilday season.... and it will be hard find some one to do it. In the meantime my friend recommended Tom Pulambo, who had done her bathroom and kitchen and she was very happy with it. I could certainly trust  her as she is quite a detail oriented person.

Now, as soon as I could reach Tom( yes his answering machine was full at that time) he quickly scheduled a visit for very next day. As he walks in...he started to suggest what all  needs to be done and what should not  be touched.  For example.."no need to touch the cabinet, we can refinish them if you want to change the shade.Save your money " and I admit  I was actually impressed that he didn't  ask to demolish everything and start from the ground zero and also made good suggestion to make things fit in our limited buget. He made an estimate and gave us the quote within an hour. It covered everything that needed to be done So i was happy that I don't have to deal with different teams for  different jobs like counters or electrical and gas etc. He actually had samples for backsplash tile and catalogs for granite with him already, and helped me choose things right away.

Two days later, project was on in full swing...with guys starting as early as 6.00am. Any thing that could be salvaged and reused were considered all through the project without compromising with the outcome.

The entire team overall was very friendly, they would listen to requirements and accommodate it to  best possible extent. I must mention that they did the floors of entire first level of the house and finished everything in time but still happily worked on an unexpected extra round of buffing and coating the entire floor on day before Christmas to make sure  that we could move in as scheduled. Need not say We were "FlOORED" by this gesture.

The project was finished in time and didn't exceed my budget. Yes, it went over the original quote but there were some changes along the way...so no regrets.  I am very happy and satisfied with the overall experience and

so  we have already hired them do  the fence of  backyard of my old house.

Our experience was professional and pleasant. These are nice guys who walked us through the things we weren?t familiar with.

A learning experience for my wife and me; we chose an alabaster color tile and epoxy grout. I initially leaned toward a darker grout with more contrast but changed my mind on the recommendation of the tile showroom. In retrospect I wish I had stuck with my initial choice. This would have eliminated the resulting grout haze which was impossible to see under the bright overhead lights when installing. After the job was completed and we went back to normal lighting (lamps) the haze was evident. My wife and I figured we could remove the haze with white vinegar and warm water. When we couldn?t I researched epoxy grout, learned about the difference, and decided to call a professional tile cleaner to take a look. He quoted an acceptable price and was able to chemically remove over 90% of the haze (epoxy is a bear to remove if not done on installation, and in this case because there was no contrast in the grout from tile any residual grout couldn?t be seen when wet). The floors are laid beautifully and after the cleaning are very nice.

Overall, we are pleased with the final work of KB Contractors, and have no doubt this has increased the value of the property.

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Shipman, VA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
