This group did it all. The initial visit to assess the issues was informative and helpful. We could see our choices. They offered sound advice and looked at ways to save us money where it was possible. We ended up replacing about half the boards on the oldest deck. The finished product on both decks looks amazing -- like new. The workmen were thoughtful, knowledgeable, hard working, and polite. I was impressed that they even followed up with tips on maintaining the decks for years to come. I will definitely have them back every couple of years just to check on the decks and preserve the investments we have made in them. My highest recommendation."

"They installed about 160 feet of redwood privacy fence with three gates and an additional gated enclosure for a heat pump. For the wood fence itself they did excellent work. Quality material and accommodated some unusual features which meant the entire job was done by one contractor. The owner suggested and installed special gate latches that allow entry with a code on a keypad, which actually got them the job. Their failing was the crew doing the work did not understand how that special gate latch worked, and how to construct a gate to properly use it. I am handy with tools so I was able to spend a day to modify and add to their work to make the latch work. Not everyone is in a position to do that. They over-promised in that crew doing the actual installation needed more guidance for a completely successful installation. So if you have a standard fence and gates with standard Home Depot style hardware, I would recommend them. But if you need something unusual they really are not able to handle it and you need to plan to get that skill set elsewhere."

"This project was very successful.  There was excellent communication with the owners, Ian during contractor selection and bid finalization, and Justin on the job site.  We had evaluated several bids and checked all available reviews.  The existing fence had been braced in the past to maintain vertical and the posts appeared to be in good condition, unlike the skirts and boards. <br /> After selecting Plane & Stain, we spoke with Ian about retaining the posts to save money and he professionally conveyed his rationale for replacing the posts and wouldn't do the job that way, offering to let us out of our agreement if we wanted to do that. This gave us even more confidence in the company's quality standards.  <br /> Together we planned the coordination of work with our gardeners to remove vines and vegetation that had grown over and between fences, and to protect pantings we wanted to retain. They adjusted their starting time to be compatible with HOA rules. They showed up early on the scheduled day but waited until the designated hour to start the noisy demolition. Justin was on site to make sure everything was in order before turning it over to his foreman. They encountered some unexpected issues early that required some longer boards to get the necessary height (to fully cover views of the adjacent fence) and they quickly made the arrangements to get them and stay on schedule.  <br /> The workers were hard workers, professional, and communicated well with each other and with us. The job was started and completed at the time they said and the finished product looks great.  Our owners were happy with the result. We were very pleased with the performance of Plane and Stain on all aspects of this project. <br />"
