"Great! Joe has worked for us before…installed patio door, remodeled room by removing a wall, installing a beam and even building a cabinet for the room. All just beautiful! Most recently he put in 9 windows for my husband and I. He does quality work and does he his job area clean. I would not hesitate to hire him for your job!"

"The workers were here early, which was pleasant. They were all respectful of our property and were very kind to our dogs who were underfoot through the whole process. The clean-up was wonderful. A professional looking job. You can tell the installers are very experienced."

"Ash was great. He arrived on time and did what he said he was going to do, plus a little more without charging me for it. I was quoted to have the siding pressurewashed, windows, deck, garage doors and to have the gutters scrubbed. He also cleaned some debris off the rear part of my roof above the deck. I said I would get to it but he said he would take care of it since he was already here and he wouldn't charge me anything for it. He said and quot;why dirty up the deck, when I can take care of it for you.and quot; He also washed our Bilco Doors for no charge as well. I would definitley recommend him and his company again. <br />"

"Excellent. A little bit of a wait until they were available to start the install, but everything went better than I could've hoped. Actual expenses were very close to the estimates with minimal disruption to the household. The new tankless hot water is very quiet and efficient and they'll soon be back to install fireplace logs."

"JT's dealt with the township building code official as a first step. JT's also dealt with necessary inspections. JT's engaged a designer and arranged for all construction. A concrete contractor dealt with Justin to set the foundation and the floor of the garage. The concrete floor was made 6 in deep at homeowner's request and was fitted with a drain. Because of the size and elevation of the roof (in order to match the roofline of the original house), a crane was used to set the roof trusses. Justin and an employee secured them. Carpentry, roofing, windows, doors, siding, spouting, lighting (inside and out), and electric were all taken care of by JT's. Justin always checks each detail before going ahead and keeps all apprised of expenses. The lawn that was torn up was raked and seeded by JT's. <br />"

"Scott not only performed the repair work requested but provided advice about other home issues that did not require repair.  (For example, flickering kitchen lights were caused by my use of CFL bulbs for lights on a dimmer switch.)  He and his co-worker were friendly and courteous (and did not make me feel incompetent because I don't know much about home maintenance issues), and they cleaned up the work areas after they were finished.   <br /> It was initially challenging to schedule the work because of my location and work schedule, but Scott was persistent and the repairs were not urgent.  I will definitely use Home Aid Handyman in the future - and with a 40-year-old home, there will be a future.  I highly recommend this business. <br /> <br />"

"They did a good job. They presented themselves as someone who is experienced in doing log homes which was important to me. I had some damage to the logs done by wood peckers that I had to have repaired. He suggested a substance called Sikaflex instead and he supplied that which I was pleased about. We talked about what kind of stain to use and he did have a recommendation but as we went around the house, it had just rained and he saw that the water was still beating up on the logs and he said "well maybe we ought to go with what the kind that you had" and I was happy to do that so I supplied all the stains. He was willing to make adjustments. We found for instance that the side of the house that takes the morning sun was drinking up the stain, it just needed more on there. So he gave me a very fair price to do a second coat. We talked about the other side of the house too where it gets the afternoon sun. He said "I will do it for $250 extra for each side" but he only ended up charging me $250 for both, so I that was very nice. I went with David because he was the only one that specifically advertised himself as a log home specialist. We were a little frustrated with the schedule. He is located in Newville, Pennsylvania which is probably a good half an hour away and he was trying to juggle this and some other jobs and trying to find the best time to do them and the rain just was not cooperating."

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in State College, PA

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
