"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"The inspection went very well (as far as Inspector Mike's service was concerned).  He was already up on the roof of the house when my husband and I arrived - and we were about 10 minutes early for our appointment!  He was very patient and explained A LOT, which came in particular handy when this house deal fell through and we had to start hunting again - we knew a bit more about what sorts of things to look for! <br /> His report, except for the results of the radon test, was in my inbox before 7:30 the next morning.  The radon test results were in by March 15th (the test had stopped working and he needed to run it again). <br /> Inspector Mike was very personable and had a good sense of humor.  My husband and I both enjoyed working with him and will definitely keep him in mind for the future.  We'll also be recommending him to our friends and family. <br />"

"The technician called while on the way to our appointment and arrived on schedule. He completed the job in a very timely and efficient manner and explained the process during each step. Cleanup of the project was thorough as well. All in all, the technician was highly professional in all aspects of the service, and we are quite pleased with the outcome of the project."

"I would highly recommend US Water. Not only did they explain everything fully but explained what they were testing for and how we would see changes not only to our clothing, dishes, shower glass but our hair and skin. Since I have two rather big water heaters I thought that I would need the biggest water softener, but Kevin was honest and saved us quite a lot of money. I would trust him without question next time. They also followed up days later to make sure we were happy and to see if we had any questions. Then a few months later they wanted to just check in to see that everything is going well. I haven't had this kind of customer service ever with a company."

"Woke up Sunday morning to a cold house. Called the company whose label is on the furnace several times - no answer. Called Jacobson and their answering service answered on the first ring. Within 20 minutes or so the repair man, Justin, called back. A little while later he arrived. This is the second time I had called Jacobson, the first was when my Mother had trouble with her furnace, and that too was an after hours call. Jacobson were highly recommended by my Mom's neighbor. We were very pleased with them then. Justin was our serviceman both times. He is very knowledgeable and professional. He diagnosed the problem and determined how to fix it quickly. He did run into some problems and another serviceman then their boss arrived. They stuck to it until they had the furnace working. The drain pipe was frozen, and the bottom of the tray turned out to also be frozen. They charged for only one serviceman, for three hours, which was less time that they were actually there. I was very pleased. When other companies won't even answer their phones Jacobson will be there. No wonder they have been voted #1 in the area so often."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Stephenson, MI

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
