"Mel's missed the first appointment. I eventually received an email saying that he couldn't make the first appointment. He arrived a week later. The company did send an email and telephoned to confirm the new appointment. I originally used the Angies List deal for $199 for 20 windows. Upon arrival he counted the extra windows (15) and quoted a price of $15 per window in excess of the 20. In addition, he wanted $30 for a large window over my front foyer. We negotiated $10 per additional window and $20 for the large window. He wanted extra for a bump out window, but we settled on the same price for the other extra windows because the bump out window was not that large. I asked about doing the garage door windows (12 x 14 inches). He quoted $6 each and would not come down. I canceled the request.
Overall they did a nice job of cleaning the windows. Unfortunately, Mel's was not amenable to negotiate price so I give them a C rating.If his prices were more lenient he could have had a better overall check.

"I purchased their big deal for chimney inspection and cleaning ($99).  They contacted me promptly and we arranged for a date for the service.  They arrived on time and began the service quickly.  Both the office staff and the chimney sweeps were personable and professional.  Following the cleaning and inspection the senior tech recommended replacing the existing chimney crown and replacing some missing mortar between flue pipes.  I accepted their recommendation and estimate ($240, which included a $150 credit from the big deal) and we arranged a second visit 2 weeks later.  I was not able to be on-site for the visit, but it was not required.  They arrived and performed the repair work as scheduled.  I arrived home to find the work completed and the area cleaned up.  The crown looks a lot better now.  I discovered a masonry hammer someone had accidentally left behind and the company sent someone around to pick it up when I called.

"On the painting side they did a really good job. They're reliable, they did it more or less in the period of time that they said they would. But that wasn't the problem. I liked the work that was done and I did some comparisons with pricing and I thought that they were pretty reasonable, I think they came in the middle of 3 quotes that I got, but I think there was a miscommunication problem. Because there were things that I thought were understood that needed to be painted. They said that it wasn't included. We have a garage which was detached form the house, so when we were walking around the garden I pointed out that the garage needs to be painted. He looked at it and it looked fine but the problem was, he only saw the back of the garage door so I didn't make him go outside to see that he had a lot of surface area around the front that needs to be covered. So I wasn't too happy with that because. We've had painters that painted the house before and we didn't need to do that and it was surprising. We have an old house with wooden windowsills that need to be painted. So that meant that he had to remove all the windows so what they did was send someone to remove all the outside storm windows so that they can paint the frame around the windows and there were a few windows that they didn't take the storm windows from. In the end they asked if they finished painting everything, I said, "No you haven't painted this." So it was a lot of back and forth. They finally did it but I was not happy with the way it was done because I left taken advantage of."
