"Lightning Bug Electric did a wonderful job. We had Josh & Jake come out to install a ceiling fan & a new switch for it in our two story living room. They were extremely nice, funny & professional. They taught us a lot about the home’s existing wiring, & recommendations to upgrade our house that were extremely helpful. The ceiling fan came out great, & the switch as well! I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get electrical work done the right way. Incredible!!"

"Saved our house from burning down! We had called another company who came out and didn't even look at our breaker box to diagnose the problem before telling us we were safe to keep using it. Unsatisfied and wary of this information we called Lightning Bug Electric. Steven came out, actually pulled our breaker box apart, and was able to diagnose a serious issue. He was kind, professional, and friendly. He personally showed me the problem he found. It was unsafe to use our breaker box as it was sparking, arching, smoking, and melting. Steven pushed all his appointments for us to be taken care of ASAP since our situation was dire. He installed a new panel and did an excellent job! Would highly recommend this company to anyone in need of electrical service! They are honest, friendly, helpful, accommodating, professional and they did not price gouge us. Thank you Lightning Bug Electric and Steven for your help and service; we will definitely be using you for all our future electrical needs!"

"Floyd and his assistant were absolutely wonderful! I really appreciated the fact that Floyd did not hesitate to give me an approximate cost of the work I needed done before coming out, whereas other companies wanted to charge $49 just to come out and give me a quote. Floyd worked with my schedule, arrived on time, observed safety precautions by wearing a mask at all times, and was extremely professional and accommodating as he took care of several electrical projects I wanted done. In addition his overall price was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Sullivan Electric Services to others, as well as hire them again for any electrical work I need done."

"If you are looking for an electrician, look no further. My wife and I bought a house built in 1969 and the electric panel has not been updated. Seriously we only had 100 amps and were not supposed to use any appliances. That's unacceptable. I asked a bigger electric company for an estimate and was given a higher and lower quote for the necessary vs needed changes. Bright Idea almost literally charged half of what they would for twice the number of line items! In fact, I didn't even think to add outlets to the exterior of the house. Now I don't have to run an extension cord though a window to do yard work. Jamaal and his team are absolute professionals. They show up on time (rare in Atlanta), are faithfully responsive to text or calls, they clean up after themselves, and are extremely knowledgeable. We love our new home and have found the electrician for all future projects and repairs. Thank you Jamaal and Bright Idea."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Stone Mountain, GA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
