"I hired Koala Insulation of Greater Baltimore for attic insulation and fan installation. Initially, things went well. Jeffrey L. did a great job explaining insulation options and ventilation, and I chose the company for their fair pricing and strong reviews. Unfortunately, the project didn?t go as planned. A job quoted as one day stretched into four visits due to planning issues and the crew lacking a tall enough ladder. I also ended up with paint damage on my staircase from their hose, which required touch-up work. Jasper mentioned possible compensation for the delays, but I never received follow-up from him or the owner. The crews were polite and did good work overall, but the poor communication, unexpected delays, and lack of accountability were disappointing. I?m leaving 3 stars based on my experience."

"Very well. Originally contacted them to do home energy audit as part of PEPCO program. Very thorough and informative. We knew we needed insulation in the attic, and some other issues. There was no "hard sell," just clear information. The insulation work itself exceeded my expectations. The crew was very professional and informative."

"The team was professional, worked quickly, and the install went smoothly. The only negative, which may not affect everyone, is when they went to open the knee walls to install the insulation. They did not cover any of my furniture or personal items. I have now spent the last week trying to clean all the dry wall dust off of and inside my electronics, clothes, walls, etc. This has truly been a nightmare. Additionally, the salesman said they would replace the drywall, tape and mud the seams, and I would only need to paint. Not totally true. One coat of mud is not sufficient and it's wet when they leave so they didn't sand it. A minimum of two coats with sanding in between and at the end is required which means I would have had to buy the supplies and do this myself or hire someone (63 yr old female and I had the supplies from a previous job and know how but didn't plan on it or want to). I'm more than two weeks later and still trying to finish this task between working and cleaning drywall dust. All other debris and materials were cleaned up to my full satisfaction. I would hire this company again and I do recommend them but make sure you yourself cover everything within range of falling dust and know the "only have to paint" is far from the truth. Good job otherwise and looking forward to the summer heat to test this investment."

"Thank you James Im, Antonio and crew for an amazing experience and a job well done! It is rare these days to find a home improvement company that you can trust from beginning to end. AHC staff and representatives ensured that every detail from estimates, to coordinating delivery of materials and quality control of installation was performed to the highest standards and exactly on time. James and Antonio/crew were attentive to our every question and concern, and in the end made the experience with AHC a memorable one worthy of the highest level recommendation. Bottom line: If you choose any other roof replacement contractor - you will be making a mistake!"

"They were prompt and courteous. The job took almost two full days. Of course it was expensive, like all closed cell insulation, but we got four estimates and this company offered to spray it in thicker than the other companies (in the ceiling for about the same price). The other companies told us that anything in excess of 2" is not worth the money in energy savings or basically is overkill  - and they charged a whole lot more to add the extra depth. AC&R sprayed in five or more inches of insulation in the ceiling rather than the three inches that the other companies offered. Now it is finished and right away you can tell it is super tight!  On a hot day the other day the place felt like an icebox! The insulation is not soft and mushy. It feelis a bit like one of those styrofoam coolers but a bit stronger and stiffer. One very minor thing is that they had left the staples in the studs where they had put up the plastic sheeting to protect areas not being sprayed, but I should be able to pull or pound them in before drywall goes on. They were careful not to produce a lot of overspray in areas not meant to be sprayed with plastic sheeting on the floor and elsewhere, plus they covered all the outlets before proceeding. Afterwards they did a good job of shaving down the excess flush to the studs and did a great job with clean up. If we were to do it again we'd use them. And we are fairly picky."

FAQs for batt, rolled or reflective insulation install or upgrade projects in Sykesville, MD

Batt insulation excels in vertical installations because it remains firmly in place and delivers consistent thermal performance. Blown-in insulation performs exceptionally in spaces such as attics, efficiently filling gaps in irregular areas.

Employing both insulation types according to their strengths enhances your home’s overall energy efficiency and comfort by providing a tailored solution for every space.

Start by measuring the square footage of the space, then match that area with the insulation thickness you need to hit your target R-value. Add a buffer for waste and odd-shaped spots so every cavity is covered.

Once you have a rough count, run it past a local insulation pro—their on-site advice will fine-tune the numbers and help you avoid costly miscalculations.

Old insulation that is dry, intact, and mold-free does not require removal before adding new insulation; stacking new insulation over it maintains effective thermal performance and boosts energy efficiency.

If the insulation is damp, moldy, or deteriorated, removal is necessary to eliminate health risks and ensure maximum effectiveness of the new layer. A professional insulation contractor will assess your situation and recommend the most effective solution.

Installing insulation in an average-sized home using batts or boards requires five to 12 hours. Using spray foam or blown-in insulation requires two to five hours. These timeframes are determined by the area’s size, accessibility, and whether old insulation must be removed.

Complex projects and hard-to-reach spaces demand extra time. Hiring an experienced insulation professional ensures that the installation is completed efficiently and correctly.

Insulation is measured by R-value, which defines how effectively it resists heat flow. A higher R-value provides superior thermal resistance, ensuring your home remains warm in winter and cool in summer.

Choosing the correct R-value is essential for maximizing energy efficiency and comfort, and it directly impacts long-term utility savings. Professional guidance determines the optimal R-value for your specific climate.
