"I was leery of getting a new roof. Our house is almost a hundred years old and had asphalt shingle over the original wood shake. As Matt (owner of MAP Construction) explained to me, when you tear off a wood shake roof, you have to completely re-deck the whole thing. In our case, that would mean almost 90 sheets of plywood. I had heard horror stories about roofing contractors and how unprofessional they were. And getting a new roof is a big scary-- your home is opened up and vulnerable for the few days it takes to complete the job. I was also worried about the high cost of a new roof.
