"If you're looking for a professional, reliable roofing company, look no further than Complete Roofing! After dealing with a leaky roof for way too long, I finally decided it was time for a full replacement. I got a few quotes from different companies, but Complete Roofing stood out immediately. Their pricing was competitive, but more importantly, they were honest, knowledgeable, and easy to communicate with. The crew arrived on time every day, worked quickly and efficiently, and kept me updated throughout the process. One thing I really appreciated was how respectful and clean they were—no debris left around, no mess in my yard, and they even checked for stray nails when they were done. The end result? A beautiful, durable roof that gives me peace of mind! The materials they used were high quality, and I could tell they paid attention to every single detail. The entire process was seamless, with zero hassle, and I couldn't be happier. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to friends, family, or anyone looking for a trustworthy, top-notch roofing company."

Customers say: True professional

"Vision Roofing was a fantastic company for our reroofing project. We live by the beach and our roofing had been blown off and needed replacement for years before we actually were able to do the job. As expected with wood being exposed to the elements, some of the timbers underneath the shingles had rotted and needed replacement. Ben did a thorough inspection, a complete estimate (NONE of the surprise changes later after they “discover” more damage and want to charge you double) and from permitting through completion, Ben took charge, stayed on time, his team cleaned thoroughly afterwards, was a dream to work with. I would highly recommend him and will use him again and again. Our roofing is beautiful once again, water tight and is guaranteed."

"August Roofing sent Daniel to meet with me to assess where the areas may be that were causing the leaks. Daniel took his time and really evaluated my entire roof to find where he felt the leaks were occurring. He even looked into my drop ceiling to find traces of a leak. Once he gave me the proposal, the workers who did the job were prompt, efficient and left no mess. I had to wait three months after the work to see if the leaks had been corrected as it was summer and we had no rain. After the first rain we found that the roof was totally fixed but we had a leak around a sky light. I called August Roofing to come back down to address this. They were back out within a week and patched around the sky light as needed. Although I will have to wait for the next rain to see if the patching worked, I have full confidence that if there is any leaking August Roofing will make it right. Everyone at this company, from the person who answers the phone, to the workers that do the job, are pleasant and professional. As a building owner, I am thrilled to have a great roofing company when needed. I had two other bids, one of which wanted to sell me a whole new roof and the other much higher in price for a patching but they were not sure where leak was coming from. Really glad I chose August Roofing!!!!"

"Excellent communication from the first meeting to look at the roof, through establishing the contract, scheduling, and completing the work. There was unexpected additional action required at the end of the project and, Rene, the Superintendent, followed up and had that completed ASAP. I also want to comment that the roof replacement was done on my parents' home in S.Calif. I live in the Seattle area. I had hoped to be there during the roof replacement but the timing was such that I could not be. Rene was accessible to me by phone or email if I had questions or was working through details on behalf of my parents. He always responded in a timely manner. Rene also went above and beyond by taking pictures of each stage of the project, emailing them to me with updates. My parents asked me to be on point so much of the communication came to me, yet Rene also kept my parents' updated. Jordan Roofing is professional, timely, and clean up was thorough. Excellent customer service and high quality work. Even the city roof inspector commented that Jordan Roofing Company does excellent work. I highly recommend Jordan Roofing Company."

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Tarzana, CA

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
