"Here's a more concise version of your review: --- We chose Basement Authority of West Virginia for foundation encapsulation after Morganâ s inspection and excellent explanation of the process. Their estimate was the most competitive. The job was completed punctually by Aiden and his professional crew. Morgan followed up with a detailed second inspection, answering all our questions. Overall, we're highly satisfied with their work and professionalism. Greg Harrah Scott Depot wv"

"Exceptional company in every aspect!! From the owner (Brandon) to the employees (Russell & Brian) just to name a few ..were top notch! The job wasn't an easy one but they never complained or acted anyway but professional & respectful! They are some of the hardest working individuals I have ever met...They complete the job & clean up as if they were being supervised..but in fact they just have high work ethics!! From the first impression to the end of the job ..the owner Brandon makes you feel like you have known him your entire life. He is both honest & trustworthy. I would highly recommend A & P Plumbing for anything related to plumbing!! You will not be disappointed !! They are the BESTof the BEST!!!"

"I needed a hot water heater installed on a holiday and A to Z responded that day and installed it the same day without charging me an additional holiday fee. Labor fee was more than reasonable. Sam did the installation and did a good job getting all the lines properly connected."

Replaced baskets/tailpieces on kitchen sink, cleared clog in bathroom sink, and nearly rebuilt toilet which had rusty bolts on bottom of tank causing a leak. Everything working fine today. "These guys were phenomenal. We hired them to replace our shower faucet and shower head yesterday. They went above and beyond to make sure it was done right. I will say that it was a bit more expensive than I thought it would be, but I completely understand why. What I was super impressed with was any time they had to go get parts or do this or that, he would ask me to come and look at what he's doing. Plumbing is a foreign language to me, but he explained everything in great detail about what they were doing, what needed to be done and why. He kept me so very well informed throughout the entire job. They worked very fast but not too fast to make mistakes. They cleaned up after the job very nicely and very timely. Kudos to them! I would absolutely 100% recommend these guys for any plumbing job and we will absolutely use them if needed in the future! Two areas of feedback. 1 -They had to replace panel behind our hallway toilet. It's just a smidge crooked. To be fair, the old panel was painted the same color as the walls, so it's very possible the old one wa a crooked too and we just didn't notice. And 2 - maybe look into booties to cover your rubber boots for non emergency situations? This is by no means a complaint. Plumbing is a messy job and I appreciate everything they did. Just a suggestion!"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Teays, WV

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
