"We scheduled our first servicing for a ductless heat pump originally installed by CEC. The serviceman that came told my wife that the computer desk located beneath the unit would have to be moved. My wife was unable to move it, and suggested for the serviceman to remove the drawers first. He partly unloaded it before moving it, but in the process gouged our sheet vinyl flooring in a couple places. My wife felt bad that she had not warned him about dragging things across the floor. The servicing of the unit it was completed very nicely and greatly improved the cooling performance (we had only given it some basic vacuuming maintenance since it was installed a couple years ago). When I got home from work, I took a couple pictures of the gouges in the floor. I sent them via email to the rep who had originally contacted me about getting the unit serviced, asking if they could help with some kind of compensation. I received no response for a couple weeks, and sent another email. This time the rep replied that he had forwarded my issue to his superior. Finally, after bugging them again a couple weeks later (a month after reporting the problem), I finally got a phone call from Chris. He explained that in his view the torn floor was not really their fault since we should have moved the desk beforehand to allow the technician to access the unit, as we probably wouldn't want to risk having cleaning fluid or whatever falling on the desk. However, he was willing to give us some compensation if my wife and I would come up with a price. After talking it over with my wife, we emailed him back and explained that, as we had never had the unit serviced before, we didn't know that moving the desk would be required. We asked for reimbursement of whatever it would have cost to have rescheduled instead of having the technician try to move the desk. We also suggested they make sure to alert customers about potential risks. Chris graciously received our feedback, and issued a full refund ($167) of the service charge, which arrived promptly via check a few days later. We will definitely hire CEC again, and next time be better prepared."
