"It was great working with Sean on our remodel. He assisted us in removing a wall between our kitchen & living room and reinforced the space with a beam. He built out a laundry closet complete with gas/electrical hook ups, etc. He is calm, collected and knowledgable and we appreciate his work everyday."

"We have hired TWD several times from small jobs to large jobs on our home. We have always been very happy with the whole process. They take pride in their work and so do their employees. During any work, inside or outside, they keep your home so clean that by the end of the day you would never even be able to tell there was work being done. No matter if the project is one day or several weeks, they realize this is a persons home and treat it as such. Thank you TWD for being a company not willing to cut corners in QUALITY or SERVICE. "We are VERY HAPPY with our decision to select Don and Cactus Valley Homes to remodel our master bathroom. We weren't sure exactly who to choose to do the work, so we obtained quotes from 4 different companies to make our decision. One of the reasons we selected Cactus Valley was because Don was the only one that provided a professional recommendation against one of the features we were considering. That may sound weird at first, but we wanted someone to tell us if there were potential negatives to any of our ideas. We didn't have the expertise and wanted someone who was honest and up front from the start. Having a large window in our shower would likely lead to leaking and mold issues and is overall a bad idea. This was something we thought might be a concern, but Don was the only one that spoke up about it. The other contractors just said it would be fine and brushed it off even when we expressed our potential concerns. Don recommended replacing the window with a small one that was up high and rebuilding the wall so it wouldn't be getting direct constant shower water. He was more concerned with doing it the right way, and to us, that spoke volumes. We also did our homework and researched the heck out of his previous work, license, and looked for any complaints or issues. We loved what we saw, and didn't see anything negative in our research. Don was very communicative both in calls, texts, and emails throughout the entire process. He and each of his workers worked hard throughout the project, and went above and beyond our expectations for customer service. He was proactive in obtaining materials and being prepared for the job. He and his son both had great attitudes and were friendly every single day - even on days when it was super cold outside and their hands were frozen from cutting tile! Since the work was done in our master bathroom, we had a construction area right next to our bedroom, but they cleaned up the job area each evening which made the process less stressful. We had our single shower and tub removed and a custom double shower installed. It is gorgeous!! They remodeled the entire bathroom with a new window (had to rebuild the outside wall with stucco and all), vanity, sinks, countertop, faucets, toilet, and floor tile. They removed an old in wall medicine cabinet, and installed can lights in the new shower. Every step of the project was well planned and timed out by Don and he kept us up to date on what to expect throughout. If you want quality work with great customer service at a good price - this is the company you should hire. I know we will be reaching out to Cactus Valley in the future and have already recommended him to friends and family."

"Alex was amazing in his work. He was punctual, kept me appraised of what was going on, kept to time frames and Informed me if there was a change as was the case because we had to take an extra day to get the floor even before placing tiles. He cleaned up his workspace everyday and treated the homeowners with care. The final product was amazing and my wife loved the kitchen"

"While most remodeling projects are tedious at best, what a pleasant experience we had working with Steve and Darci of Hill Country Stairs and Millworks! Unlike some contractors who say they specialize in stairs when they really try and just generalize in everything, Steve is a "Stair Master." He quickly assessed our project, gave a fair and reasonable bid within 48 hours, and completed the job on time, and above and beyond expectation. He does the work himself - no bidding the job and then disappearing while his "crew" takes over. He clearly prides himself in doing honest work and providing excellent craftsmanship. The staircase, even without the final staining and painting, are a thing of beauty! What a relief to find someone in the remodeling business you can count on. And he will even deliver a pie from his daughter's pie company, Sweet Thang, as a bonus! We will definitely call on him again when its time for more millwork in our remodel project - in fact we have him already contracted to do two more projects."

"It’s my pleasure working with Chris and his team during the entire remodeling project. He is willing to work within the budget and get the job well done. I was kept fully informed on any finished items or scheduling changes. His crew always showed up when they were scheduled. From start to finish, Chris and his team’s communication with us was excellent. Never a concern and question left unresponded. Overall, I am pleased with how everything turned out and very grateful that our experience with Dream House Construction & Renovations was a positive one"

"A long ago improperly installed shower leaked into the walls which required the removal the 20 feet of wall board two feet high on both side of the walls and a complete deconstruction of the shower. LGL construction did the complete job, deconstruction and the complete remodel. Working with Adam at LGL Construction was a wonderful experience. He gave me a very detailed and accurate proposal, on time every day, communicated in a timely manner and answered his phone every time I called. He also offered valuable suggestions for the products and tile used in the construction. I have no reservations in recommending LGL Construction."

"We completely gutted and renovated our entire house, using several different companies. We were content with the final product, but wanted to add a large fan to the main living room several months after the house was completed. We hired Rounds Construction for the job and of everyone we worked with, they were one of the most professional companies. They arrived at our house exactly when they said they would come. Moved all of our furniture out of the way very carefully. They never complained about crawling 50 feet through our tight attic space to the other side of the house to install the electrical in a very difficult spot. The fan installation is flawless and the price was very reasonable. They left the place cleaner than when they arrived by doing touch up paint on the ceiling and by the light switches, vacuumed, and patiently moved our furniture several times to exactly where we wanted it. I would definitely hire Rounds Construction again and again!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Phoenix, AZ

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
