"Bruce arrived to start the job on time and is quite methodical, with everything going in the right order. He has the tools to do ANYTHING and completely filled our 2 car garage with tools, materials, cabinets, etc. Since everything was replaced, he had to use skills on so many levels, including dry wall, insulation, flooring, electrical, plumbing, granite work, painting, heating, etc. I think he truly excels at molding/trim work and the cabinet installing. Perfection. An example of true attention to detail: Since they had to cut into our floor joists (beneath the bathroom) to accommodate new drain systems, Bruce took it upon himself to find a local metal fabricator to create steel U-shaped supports so that our floor remained as strong as before. Some people would have left that out.... He wanted things to be correct and often asked for our approval...making any changes we requested along the way. He is approachable. He had a great, professional introduction the first day we met and proposed a budget. Why we did not give Bruce all A's---and if there is any down side---it would be a rather severe minimizing of the total amount of time needed for the project. As a builder, he is hard to fault in that we did stick to our agreed budget and if he was working for weeks beyond the planned completion time...well, it was not costing us any more. I believe Bruce to be a very honest person and understand that any building project has delays. Toward the end, as another project became reality, I believe Bruce lost some focus here. That said, we are happy with our finished bathroom and make a positive recommendation. Your Designs LLC can be trusted. ((I am having trouble porting over pictures...sorry...if I can add them later, I will. For now, I can say I think it looks just as we planned...and this company delivered!))"

"This project exceeded all of my hopes. Our old banister was a mess, and Gary came to my house, gave me some great advice on how to proceed with the project, immediately turned around with a reasonable quote, and was able to start work the following week. Gary and his coworker, Dan, were both incredibly friendly and at the same time professional. They were careful to keep the job site neat and worked swiftly. Gary was considerate in asking for my opinion on the project at each phase of work, and at one point, when I asked for a change, he spent a great deal of time and effort reconfiguring the way the banister attached to the wall just to make it look right to my untrained eye. He was also careful to get the stain to perfectly match my preexisting hardwood floors.  <br /> I would certainly recommend anyone to call Gary. You will receive professional, excellent craftsmanship and great customer service as well. <br />"

"Corey and his crew were very professional, had the old windows removed and cleaned up very quickly, They had the new windows installed very fast and with a high degree of workmanship, I am very picky with the quality of work I have done, I usually do the work myself because of the disappointments I have experienced with the quality of workmanship, Corey and his crew met my approval with the high quality of workmanship, and the clean up after the job was completed. Now about the windows, I was skeptical of the glass block windows, but since they have been in the basement is so much brighter I keep going to shut off the lights and they are not on, and also have gained an added security factor. We have received so many complements the windows. In closing I would HIGHLY!!! recommend Central Michigan Glass Block for any glass block work or any of the other services they provide, as they provide many other services they provide."

"Jim did an excellent job. He completed the job in about the time he quoted. The workmanship is top quality. Jim arrived at the time he stated for the initial inspection and submitted his bid in a reasonable time. After completion he cleaned up very well, would not have known the job had taken place. When the porch was added years ago the fascias did not line up, but Jim did a great job. It now looks like one continuous roofline. Jim suggested we use Kolbe windows and they fit and operate great. The vinyl cedar shakes look great also. Should we have more work done in the future we will not hesitate to give Jim a call."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Traverse City, MI

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
