"Jeff did a thorough evaluation including moisture testing to determine if we had any issues and if he could be of service to us. We were provided an extensive amount of education on the subject and the best plan of action moving forward. I'd highly recommend NU-Life as your go to mold resource."

"Our home has a radon mitigation system. We asked Janet to take Radon measurements, review the existing system, and make recommendations. She took measurements for 48 hours and determined that our radon levels were actually very low and that no further remedial efforts were needed. The price was very fair and no attempt was made to sell us something that we don't need."

"Austin came to assess the situation after the house had failed in a home inspection. He walked us through the process and told us about the equipment that would be installed. He knew that we were under a time constraint so he was able to fit us in his schedule. The job was done in a very professional manner and works beautifully. After the new test results were in our level was way down and the house passed. I definitely would hire him again."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Last year, we sought three estimates to take care of the visible mold in our attic. Of the three estimates, Enzyme Life Sciences (ELS) set themselves apart for two reasons. First, their price for the remediation alone was less than their competitors – hundreds of dollars less. Second, ELS does not perform repairs as the other companies did, which gave us the flexibility to do repairs ourselves or find our own contractor to perform the repairs at a price we found reasonable. ELS was more than happy to help us understand what improvements he thought we should perform on the attic and we made those changes after the remediation at minimal additional cost. ELS was prompt for every interaction and responsive with phone communication. I felt bad for Mike, our ELS remediation expert, as he came to perform the work at the height of last summer’s heat. He came down from the attic after the remediation sweating but maintained a positive attitude throughout the job. He even went above and beyond to take away some moldy insulation that I had piled up in the attic to dispose of myself. Mike left us with clear directions to run the whole house fan and dry out the stain remover. Minor staining remained after the service, which is not uncommon, but Mike spent as much time at our house as was necessary to ensure that the mold was dead. We recently sold the house to reduce our commute to work. The buyer’s inspector noted the remaining mold staining in the attic. Mike was extremely professional when I called him for help. He reviewed the inspection report and recognized the staining. He could have demanded an air sample to prove the accusation of live mold, but he didn’t because he cared about me, his customer, and our interest in moving through the sale of our house. Instead, Mike offered to come back out to the house and perform another treatment at no cost, which gave the buyers confidence that he was willing to stand behind his work. He also confirmed to our buyer that his guarantee would transfer to them, with a few reasonable expectations like “please do an air sample next time so that we know that there is indeed a problem.” In the end, our buyer was happy with ELS quality and customer service and we moved through the sale with no further questions or concerns about the attic."

"Ian was very knowledgeable and conscientious in providing me with all the information as we went through the inspection.  He was happy to thoroughly answer all my questions.  He provided a detailed report - ~40 pages with lots of photos.  It was a great relief to have the information and I would recommend him without reservation. <br />"

"Greg was very personable and very thorough in his home inspection. He gave good advice on home maintenance, showed us how things worked and answered all of our questions in a way we could understand. He emailed us a report immediately upon completion of the inspection. I would recommend him and would not hesitate to use him again."

"I can't say enough positive things about Jay.  He meticulously went over every detail of the observable part of the house. We discussed many items in the appropriate context of the need for repair as opposed to cosmetics. At the conclusion of the process I felt not only informed about the house, but educated as to what are and aren't real issues, how to examine things and what to expect from "keep an eye on" items for the future. For items that are "real issues," I understand what they are and why they are so. For things that are not "real issues" I understand why that is so as well.  <br> <br>While not formally part of the inspection, and thus as courtesy, he offered his personal opinion on the ease/complexity of making future adjustments in the house that we may chose to address based on preference, which was extremely helpful. <br>Most importantly, the formal report was received within a few hours of completion of the inspection. <br> <br> <br> <br>"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Troy, NY

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
