"Xavier responded promptly and scheduled our replacement sump pump install for the same afternoon. He was ahead of schedule and texted to see if he could come slightly early. That was great! He explained everything, including the warranty. Both gentlemen were friendly. Price was very reasonable."

"Mid-State Basement Systems came highly recommended by a good friend from Buffalo, NY and they did not disappoint. From start to finish they were very professional yet personable. Larry & Phil in the initial stages of the basement inspection and a reasonable quote. Silvino and his team who done the actual work was incredible, done with absolute excellence. They were here when they said they would be and finished the job a day ahead of schedule. I am thoroughly pleased with this company, first class. I highly recommend them if you need work done on your basement.******"

"I had OBA install outdoor french drains and new downspouts a couple of years before they waterproofed my basement. They were the only company I could find who did it all. Basement waterproofing included removing old, putting in new: full inside perimeter drainage, enlarge sump pit, 2 sump pumps, I-beams and carbon fiber straps. Added in brand new: battery backup for sump and vapor barrier on most affected wall. When my basement got wet a year later after the work was done, they didn't hesitate to schedule someone to inspect. If was heavy condensation, barely a thin puddle compared to 2 inches of flowing water. They had to rework a 6 ft section and add cement around the I-beams, each on their own call outs. They didn't charge because I have a lifetime warranty, transferable to the next owner. I'll be working with them again soon for a professional level dehumidifier."

"They were very, very good and I have nothing but good things to say about them. It has been absolutely trouble-free. I have had zero problems with water in the basement since then. They gave me the estimate in April 2009 and did the work that June. I would absolutely have them do it again. Their price was really good. I had another bid that was thousands more than their quote. I only got two bids and this one was way less. I saved a lot of money by going with this company and it was absolutely perfect. They did a nice job on the pump installation and they put in a battery backup system. My basement had some pretty bad leaks and it has rained a lot since then. I check it and it has been bone dry. I can tell when the pump comes on if I am downstairs and I can also see the pipe discharge where it pumps out. On a rainy day it will come on every two minutes and it is actually working pretty well. Everything they did was excellent. The people were nice and it only took them two days. The salesman was very courteous. He was out here when he said he would be. He met me somewhere else one day to transact some papers. Everything they said they would do, they did when they said they would do it. It couldn't have been any better. I would definitely use them again."

"

Chris Adams, owner of Narrow Path Plumbing, called us within hours of choosing his company on Angie's List. This was an excellent response as we are still waiting for a call from 2 other companies (non-Angie's List) that we'd contacted, one through their online service scheduling tool. Chris scheduled one of his crews for Monday morning, 11/02, and as committed, his crew of two plumbing technicians arrived on time. They quickly identified that the source of the running water was a break in the copper pipe running from in the wall of the utility room, under the concrete slab, then coming up into our under-stairwell closet. They capped off the pipe in the utility room to prove that they had identified the problem, and had an immediate solution. They next verified that we needed that water line replaced, as it feeds both a shower and a kitchen sink in our lover level. After advising that a copper line replacement would involve breaking up the slab, they offered an alternative replacement using PEX that could be installed through the overhead space into the closet.

I wasn't able to inspect the work before releasing the workers, as I'd undergone a root canal while they did the repairs. Once I did inspect the work I didn't like the routing of the PEX inside of our most active storage closet. In addition, the workers neglected to put the washer drain hose back into the drain, causing some consternation and distress in discovering our utility room flooded every night, until we could identify the source of the water. I explained my concerns to Chris Adams, and he immediately made arrangements to come out and inspect the job, committing to resolve any issue or concern to our satisfaction. Actually, just finding an owner that cared that much about his clients went a long way to remove my concern. He came out personally to reroute the hose inside the closet, which had been routed in front of a stud. I was concerned that, in time, human activity would lead to breaking that PEX line, and flooding that closet and our entire family room. He explained the strength and durability of PEX, and that it is more likely to break the copper lines than the PEX line, but then proceeded to drill the stud, passing the line through before reconnecting it.

In closing, I am completely satisfied with the final outcome of the work, and impressed by the personal touch of Chris Adams to his business. He was truly interested in making me completely satisfied with the outcome, and I agreed that there was nothing else that I wanted than some empathy over my unintended flooding from the washer drain hose. That said, I'm so glad that we have a front loader versus a tub washer.

"Wells performed a furnace inspection.  In their inspection of the furnace the discovered a PVC pipe that was leaking due to the original installer using silicone instead of PVC glue!  If they would not have discovered this, our furnace life would have had a short life.

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Urbana, OH

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
