"This is the second time we have used Greystone Construction for roof repair. Back in 2018 we had a roof replaced after weather damage. Just recently I was happy to hire them again to replace an old roof needing replaced on another property we own. I would recommend this company to anyone. Their work is professional, fair priced and done in the time frame promised. It’s hard to find honest workers these days and this company is reliable."

"The work was expertly completed and the site cleaned up perfectly. The crew was pleasant and respectful. Out of necessity, I have had to hire various and quot;contractorsand quot; for home improvements, and this company stands out as the best I have had to deal with. I would have no hesitation in hiring them again. <br />"

"He is fair in pricing and accurate in every phase. He is meticulous and his work is beautiful. He is reliable and on time. When he says he will finish the job on a certain date he is very close to the date that he says. I wouldn't have anyone else do anything other than what his particulars are."

"The work went very well.  We had a few rain delays, but that could not be helped.  Also we were coordinating other work with another contractor (see R and R Concrete) that sometimes caused delays. They showed up when expected, excavated one side of the house and dug holes on the other (walk out basement) for the piers.  When finished the yard was repaired as good as could be expected for St Louis summer. I have a little work to do on it now that it has cooled off. I had to have cracks repaired inside and concrete work done on the outside.  The people they recommended did wonderful work. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Utica, NY

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
