"I selected Advanced Radon Services, Inc. because Mr. Edwin Huff listened to my concerns the best of all firms quoted. In addition, Mr. Huff explained their system to me in detail. I had read a lot online and viewed numerous YouTube videos to have an appreciation for what Mr. Huff explained. I had purchased a continuous radon monitor. My average readings before the radon mitigation system was installed were 16.7 Pico curies. Afterwards, I’m averaging 0.40. I definitely recommend Advanced Radon Services, Inc."

"Shows up like a country boy but operates like a professional.  Really has his act together.  Goes over everything taking pictures and notes in his tablet as he goes.  Tells you what is important and what doesn't matter.  Goes up on the roof.  Looks at the foundation.  Seems like he is writing the report as he goes I got mine the next day. <br /> The radon test came back with numbers that were over the EPA acceptable level.  I'm not sure what his machine looks like, but it takes a measurement every hour and can tell you if it was moved or if the windows were opened. <br /> The information I gained was very important and helped me write up a good repair list for the seller.... as a side note, you should take a trip to the Building Inspection departiment and pull the file on your house to see what permits have been issued and which haven't. <br />"

"Talon Home Inspections provided both my home inspection and Radon Test. The inspection and Radon test went very well. Carlo was punctual and professional. He provided a very detailed report that was beyond what I expected. He also provided a home owner book that had a section to track improvements/repairs which was an unexpected bonus. The sellers had a couple of breakers turned off when he was there for the inspection so he was unable to test the stove and if the hot water heater was working, but he agreed if the sellers turned back on the breakers to check those things when he came back to pick up the Radon test equipment, we were able to get them to turn the breakers on and Carlo did test the stove and water heater when he went back. He also encouraged me to reach back out if I have any further questions. I would definitely use Talon Home Inspections again."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Good experience: We purchased our home a few years ago and it was marketed as having a radon mitigation system though we weren't sure where it was. Decided to test in December 2016 and discovered that radon levels in our home were high. Apex attempted reasonable incremental steps without jumping to recommend an entirely new mitigation system and I appreciated that approach. They determined that the fan in our attic was actually set to reverse (!!) and recommended a new fan given the size of our home. Installation was quick. We tried that for a few weeks but the numbers remained high (I purchased a digital radon reader after those initial tests.) So Gerry and Nate returned to provide with me a quote on a new system after spending a lot of time hashing out the best placement, determining if the old system could be salvaged in any way, etc. Our big problem was that our basement was fully finished and they were sensitive to the fact that a new system would require cutting into our carpet, our drywall, and the side of the house. They sent their quote within 2 days and it was very reasonable. They began by attempting to remediate the old system but after some investigation, it appeared that the old radon mitigation system hadn't been a system at all - it was incomplete and in short, the house had no means of venting of radon - an unpleasant discovery. Gerry and Nate subsequently proceeded to install the new mitigation system. The new system took a long time (8 hrs) to install due to idiosyncracies in our home's layout and issues within the walls but they contended with all "surprises" and at the end of the day I had a new mitigation system. Within 36 hrs, my radon reading dropped from 17-18 to 0.8. It seems to work!!"

"How to hire a home inspector…step 1…research. Don’t just take their word for it…anything can be written on a website. Verify their licensing and professional memberships. Here are Larry McCaslin’s credentials: *InterNACHI Certified - [*** Link removed ***] *KY State Home Inspector License - [*** Link removed ***] *member KREIA - [*** Link removed ***] *NRPP Certified - [*** Link removed ***] *BBB Rating A+ - [*** Link removed ***] *Angie’s List Rating A - [*** Link removed ***] Step 2: ask if you can tag along. Several experts recommended following along as the inspector works. Larry welcomed me to walk around with him, and took the time to explain every question that I asked. I filled many pages of my notebook with information that will be vital when the time comes to have service done involving my electric, gas, water, or any other system in the house. We spent about 4 hours, inspecting my house from top to bottom. Step 3: how detailed will the report be? Larry provided an online report for me to download. It included every detail, with colored pictures, of every system we reviewed: Roofing, Exterior, Garage, Interiors, Structural Components, Plumbing System, Electrical System, HCAC, Insulation & Ventilation, and Built-In Kitchen Appliances. Each item was rated Inspected, Not Inspected, Not Present, or Repair/Replace, and included detailed recommendations. I was able to take this report to the individual contractors, and they understood precisely what correction needed to be made. Invaluable! Step 4: read other customers reviews. Step 5: hire Larry McCaslin!"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Versailles, KY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
