"Mat removed part of a supporting wall between the living room hallway and kitchen creating a nice open airy feeling. He then removed another wall and closed off a stairwell leading to the basement. Installed a new hardwood floor where the stairs were to enlarge the eating area in the kitchen. I am planning to completely remodel the kitchen in the spring and plan on having Mat do the work."

"Jim was patient and let me pick out the faucets, taking time to really find what I wanted. Then he picked up the faucets at the store for me! He worked after 7pm and completely finished what he was doing. I told him he was my favorite plumber. I will definitely call him if I need plumbing work again. (He put in a water heater for me before and worked long hours for that too.)"

"I highly recommend Zimmerman for plumbing. They do an excellent job, are very professional, efficient and clean up afterwards. My dishwasher was rather complicated and they took the time to make sure it was hooked up correctly as indicated in the instruction manual. They care about their work and want to make sure you are happy. I also had them fix a broken pipe during another service call. They pinpointed the exact location of the break in the pipe (behind the drywall) and proceeded to cut as small a hole as possible to fix it."

"Ernie, from Modern Plumbing, came on time and ready to work. He had to work very hard to remove the old galvanized pipe, most of which was behind some cabinets. I was glad to give him a hand because it actually took two people to do some of the job. I was very pleased to see that Ernie was willing to listen to my concerns, he was respectful and diligent in the way he carried out his duties. He did cut a couple of pipes two short, which forced him to do additional work, thus lengthening the duration of his visit and the final cost of the project (Modern Plumbing charges by increments of 15 minutes). There was some time idling in the van both before Ernie came in the house and after the job was completed, which I was also charged for. The project was a bit in the expensive side, but I was satisfied with the work performed. <br />"

"Since this was a warranty claim he had to come out over two visits. The first visit he came out and verified the pump was going bad, took the information on the make and model, and called the warranty service. He later found out the current model I had was discontinued and he had to find a new replacement part. Once he found the part he came out and installed it. Installing it required a hole to be cut in the bedroom wall to access the pump, while doing so he installed an access panel for future access.  <br /> <br /> Once the work was complete the plumber cleaned up after himself and left the house the way he found it."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Vicksburg, MI

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
