"The team at Xpres was great from the beginning. They helped us really visualize what we could do with the space and helped us through all the major decisions with guidance on what would look good based on my own interests and style. The crew that worked on the house was great too! They kept to the general timeline and communicated well. (My friends all said to expect a lot of delays when it comes to any remodel project, but it was completed in just about 7 weeks from demo to finish!)"

"Project of demo old deck and build a new to the same plan did not get started until late November. There were periodic weeks during the winter that did not allow for any work. The company owner/manager(Ivan) kept us informed of the status. The quality of workmanship was very good and followed the city inspection. Project that was over 15K came in at the bid price."

"We signed a contract with St. Croix Kitchen and Bath in May of 2025 to have our 3 bathrooms updated. We put down half of the project?s cost which was a substantial amount. It is now February of 2026 and we only have 1 bathroom completed. The owner is dishonest, rude and unprofessional. The whole process with them has been very stressful- very poor communication. Avoid this company at all costs - they are most likely in financial trouble."

"Good workmanship by a very experienced, high end contractor. We were very pleased with the results of the master bath/closet update, and a number of other smaller projects. The contractor managed schedule within the original contract. Cost increases caused by our additions were transparent and well managed. "

"I hired Pratt Home Services to remodel my kitchen. They replaced my cabinets and countertops, as well as new appliances. We couldn?t be more happy with our new kitchen. The area the work was done remained clean throughout the project. We will definitely use Pratt Home Services again with future projects. "

"We had an amazing experience with Castle Gate. They built our home just about two years ago. They were super helpful throughout the whole process and great with keeping us in the loop on the whole project. Dan and Ari were so helpful, that we had them do our deck about a year later! Would highly recommend working with Castle Gate if you are looking to build a new home or even to do a remodel job!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Waconia, MN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
