"I met Molly and I loved her energy. I knew she would be one of those people that could help me with anything, so I called her and had her come over to help. I was getting ready to sell my house. While she was there, I learned about her husband who was getting his license as a contractor. It is hard to get help on the coast, and many other places. Having someone who was strong, capable, and eager for work excited me. Some contractors are a month or two out. With my neighbor, they ended up bringing their trailer and hauling a bunch of stuff for us. They work fast and they can carry more than your average human. They are very strong. Then they worked for another neighbor, who raved about their help. He just asked for their number as he is calling them again. I recently moved to Mount Shasta, and I had a lot of work that needed to be done. I also bought a hot tub in Newport that needed to be delivered. It timed out perfectly that Christian and Molly could come to Mount Shasta, bring my hot tub, and get some things done for me that needed to be done. I was also excited about the fact that I have a big fenced in yard, and they could bring their dogs. I got to babysit a few times and I loved every minute of it. I missed dog energy. We had to play it by ear based on fire insurance needs and priority shifting, but they came and they worked their tails off for me. I am not afraid of hard work. I just pick my battles. If I donâ  t have to lift something, I wonâ  t. It was nice having a very strong man to be a workhorse in my yard for a few days. Between Christian and Molly, they helped immensely. If you have something that needs to be done, call Christian. Give him an idea of what youâ  re looking at, and let him help you figure out what you need. They will be getting busy now that he is working and licensed, and they will be hard to access in the near future. I would make an appointment as soon as possible. Get them in your auto dial."

"We have hired Paul and his team for several projects in the past several years, most recently for a kitchen remodel. He is professional, honest, the work is done to a high standard and we trust his judgment. He has replaced our windows, remodeled our kitchen and bathrooms, remodeled our bedroom , built a new deck and made cedar siding to match existing cedar siding on our home perfectly. We highly recommend him."

Choosing the right Home Inspector can be difficult. Unlike most professionals, you probably will not get to meet me until after you hire me. Furthermore, different inspectors have varying qualifications, equipment, experience, reporting methods and yes, different pricing. All of our inspectors hold Associats Degrees in Building Inspection Technology which required classes in Building Codes, Electrical Codes, Mechanical Codes, Plumbing Codes, Engineering Classes, Plan Review Classes and technical Report writing classes. All new employeees go through an extensive consistetency training program before going to work for us, so you always get the same highly efficient, educated and friendly staff who understand the key diffrnece between a minor defect and a serious structural concern. We don’t write books we write quality easy to read reports.\n \nOne thing for sure is that a home inspection requires work, a lot of work. Ultimately a thorough inspection depends heavily on the individual inspector’s own effort. If you honor us by permitting us to inspect your new home, I guarantee we will give you our very best effort. This we promise you. Anything less and you can call us below 24 hours a day 7 days a week.\n \n\nJack Applegate, CBO 503-812-9399 inspbuild@hotmail.com\nBrandon Zipser 503-931-6272 bzipser@hotmail.com

"I was surprised it only took about 4hours total, even with the last minute change we requested. My biggest concern was not to lose indoor light. Everything turned out beautifully!"

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Waldport, OR

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
