"My husband's review: Great crew, superior work, fun to have around the house and will definitely hire again. My review: The afternoon after signing up for Angi, Ben, the owner of BTS Builders texted me to arrange a time to review our project. He arrived the following day and we set things in motion. Our deck rebuild was his first Angi project and the first time we used Angi! We couldn't be happier with the results! Ben stood by his estimate (which can be difficult to get from some contractors) and the timeline. He even fitted in a part of the project to complete it even though we didn't originally schedule it! He and his team were outstanding...gregarious, timely, fastidious about cleaning up the site. The crew has pride in their work and have fun while doing it. A double thumbs up for BTS Builders for your construction needs."

"The owner of Green Bee Construction needs to be held accountable for poor and faulty workmanship. The project with Green Bee Construction was for my front entry and was overwhelmed with countless errors and missteps. First, their design was flawed with incorrect structural measurements (picture and video proof), 2) redwood beams were stained incorrectly (picture and video proof), 3) his concrete mixer crashed through my garage door, ripped up my driveway, and left the place a mess, (picture and video proof), 4) window glass measurements were incorrect (picture proof), and 5), only less than two years, my new ceiling that Green Bee Construction installed in my front entry is falling apart (picture proof). The crew of Green Bee was very likable and professional. However, the owner of Green Bee Construction is a different story; he will never take responsibility for any mistakes. Nor will he take accountability for poor or faulty construction after his one-year warranty. Trust, I paid all of my bills on time for this project, and my credit score is 840+. My advice would be to get a longer warranty if you decide to do business with Green Bee Construction, but most importantly, hold the owner accountable for every mistake (large or small) during the construction process, even after one year of completion!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Washington, CA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
