"I recently hired Tops Roofing & Remodeling to replace the roof on my mother's house in Erie, PA. She applied for financing which first required Tops to jump through a few hurdles to qualify as a contractor for that financing. Tom was thoroughly responsive to those requests for information from the lender and did so in a timely manner. During the roof installation, Tom stayed in contact with me by phone to provide daily progress updates and scope of work updates. Since I live out of town, the communication provided during this entire process was absolutely necessary for me to get this done. I needed a contractor who I could communicate with and trust that things were getting done the way we agreed to and thankfully that company is Tops Roofing and Remodel. We also appreciated the respect and professionalism of the crew and are happy with the finished product."

"The crew was punctual and professional and did a good job of protecting our interior from damage from the hoses and traffic in and out. The big problem I had was the fact that insufficient foam was applied on the first go-round. The specs called for an average of 7and quot; of foam on the roof and after they left I measured it as 4-6and quot; in most places and 7and quot; or more only where a roof joist was covered. The average was far less than the specified 7and quot;. The walls were supposed to average 5and quot; and I measured 3-4and quot;. When I brought the discrepancy to their attention they were very responsive and, although it took a while to get them back out to complete the job, the end result was very satisfactory. I think the foam is a great solution to a tough attic problem and I would definitely use these folks again, although with close monitoring of the job. <br /> 12/13 Update: Now that we have had a few snowfalls this winter I can share that I am really impressed with the spray-on insulation. We only needed new insulation in one troublesome portion of our attic. The remainder has very adequate fiberglass insulation and plenty of ventilation. After a few snow and thaw cycles, it is obvious that the spray insulation does a far better job. The snow on the sprayed portion of the roof is thicker right after the snowfall and stays far longer than on the rest of the roof, indicating far less heat transfer from inside the house. Also, the attic is toasty warm. Although a bit pricy, this is a really good product. <br />"

"I was working out of town.  I paid  the contractor half the job, approx. $900, for material.  Contractor showed up during the week anddid work.  When I arrived home the job was done and looked good and roof does not leak.  Paid balance of bill. <br />"

"They repaired the roof and the gutter on the side of the house. They were very professional and very quick to answer any questions I had. They made sure I was happy with the job before they left. Can't wait to use them again for the inside repairs!"

"Our finished house is magnificent. Maria and crew transformed our 1915 cedar shingle home into a 6-color work of art. The amount of time, materials, and care that went into this project was not to be believed. People are constantly stopping by to talk about how they can't believe how wonderful the house looks and to ask for her business card. Maria is as good as her word. Her crew are good and decent people who share her work ethic and who work harder than we have ever seen. We know we would never have achieved this look, quality, and no-hassle result without Maria. She gets our unqualified recommendation for any job she bids. Never knew that our home could look like this, beautiful, traditional and trendy at the same time. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for natural slate roofing repair projects in Waterford, PA

If more than 30% of your slate roof is damaged, it's time to consider a full replacement. This will prevent further deterioration and avoid costly recurring repairs. A professional slate inspection (costing between $130 and $360) can confirm whether repairs are sufficient or if a full roof replacement is the better option.

A slate roof can last anywhere from 60 to 150 years, depending on factors like installation quality, regular maintenance and repairs, and local weather conditions. Compared to materials like clay and concrete, which often last around 50 years, a well-maintained slate roof offers superior longevity, durability, and long-lasting aesthetic appeal.

Yes, you can use temporary patch solutions, such as roofing cement or patchwork, to provide immediate relief for minor leaks or underlayment issues observed from inside your home. However, these provisional fixes do not replace the need for a permanent, professional exterior repair, which is necessary to ensure the long-term integrity and weather resistance of your slate roof.
