He came the next day and spent about a half an hour looking at the bathroom floor from above and below (in the basement). He concluded that there was no rotting at all, and that the tile installing contractor probably just didn't want the job. "This happens all the time. Guys make things up to get out of doing a job. I've heard every excuse in the book."
Marco contacted his own preferred tile installer, who offered to come the following week to put the tile in. In the meantime, the original contractor (who had already been paid for the job) sent a different tile installer who finished the job.
