"I had hired Rotten Rock a few winters ago for tree service. I had nearly a dozen very large pine trees that were very tall and within falling distance of my house. At first I was overwhelmed by the thought of any tree professional tackling this job, but then I met Henry and his crew. The job was completed much to my satisfaction, and I was impressed with the level of safety and efficiency. Just recently, my water supply line from my 100 year old shallow dug well to pump (in house) began to fail. No wanting to waste any time nor chance, again I called Rotten Rock. Within 36 hours Henry arrived with his machine and new water line.....and by Noon the job was done....Wow! Thanks Henry & Todd! -Michelle in Madison <br />"

"Bryan did a great job installing the equipment. I now feel safe that the basement will not flood. The problem is the pumps run almost constantly as if my house is sitting on top of a lake. This I am sure is costing me a few bucks.I hope that this problem can be solved soon. We will be evaluating our options. I hope that TC Hafford can help me figure out what to do.I will be contacting them soon. <br />"

"The project consisted of new landscaping and beds on both front and side yards. We worked directly with the owner Jack Oswald for the design and he was innovative, highly professional, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. The landscape staff were very competent, professional, and kind. The quality of all the work that had to be done, including the sprinkler system was exceptional. The completed project is stunning and just like I wanted. My husband and I highly recommend Black Bear Landscaping for your projects. You will enjoy working with them."

"I did a lot of research and obtained proposals from three companies. I ultimately selected The Step Guys proposal because in addition to being competitive, they provided me with the best selection of quality product and materials. I also liked the fact that their steps come with a 5 year warranty against any defect in material or workmanship. After the 3-4 weeks needed to manufacture the pre-cast concrete steps, The Step Guys came to my house and performed all of the work in just a few hours. As part of their warranty, they have promised to come back if I find that the steps settle and become out of level. I have gotten nothing but compliments from visitors and my neighbors about my new front steps."

"As usual, Brent and his crew did a fantastic job.  This area of the yard had been sinking due to formerly buried stumps and was ruining my concrete skirting.  Other workmen had tried to fix it, but could not.  Brent came and assessed the issue and fixed it permanently.  They make concrete pilings on which to place a steel bar support for the skirting.  While finishing that job he also repaired a leak that had developed on one of my skylights.  All done at a reasonable price.  He called after our latest rainstorm to check on the leak.  That is the professional way to do things. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in West-newfield, ME

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
