"I signed a contract with North American Chimney on February 1st. I was provided an estimate on the spot and was happy to get a project started. The first appointment was canceled due to a blizzard. On the rescheduled date, I notified the receptionist there was snow and ice on the roof, and was told, “we work in these conditions all the time”. The installer arrived, and said it was too icy. I was fine, and rescheduled. On the third attempt, I again called and said, it seemed “icy to me”. The receptionist said they would make the decision when they arrived. Upon arrival, the installer said it was dangerous and he would prefer to reschedule. I agreed. He called the owner in front of me, and said, “the owner does not want us on the roof”. This was an outright lie. It was the installer’s decision. When he hung up the phone, I inquired why he did that. “It’s just easier that way to say it was you”. On the fourth attempt, the chase cover, and two caps were installed. The roof was clear, but it was bitterly cold. I asked if that would prevent any caulk from curing; “we work in all type of weather”. I thought it was finally done. Two days later, the garage was flooded with a white, milky water. I collected nearly four gallons of water in buckets. When I called, I was told the installer said I had another issue on the roof and that was the problem. I said, it is definitely your issue. After some back and forth, I was able to get an appointment. When the installer arrived, he was rude and accusatory. That was, until he saw the collection of white water, and when I pointed to the two flues in the garage, and sunlight was visibly shining in. The appointment was clearly tense, and I was glad when they were done. Following the replacement of the roof, there was a downpour with wind, and leak appeared on the ceiling upstairs. At first, the obvious culprit was the roofer. That was, until I got up and inspected the quality of the chase cover/cap installation. (see attached pictures). After several hours, we proved the roof was not the issue, and I called North American Chimney. The receptionist said she would pull the paperwork and get back to me. I told her, the original installer made me uncomfortable and I wanted someone else from the company to correct the problem. She agreed. The next day, I was told by receptionist, the owner said the original installer would have to repair the situation. As was communicated to me “I had no alternative then to give him the option to fix it”. Two days, later, with no further communication, not even to schedule the original installer, I called and indicated I would take care of this myself. It is very unfortunate that with this company, the word of the customer has no value. I’ve had to defend myself that issues the installer left truly existed, and also, I’m told that I have no alternative but to have an installer come to my house and generate a tense situation. At no time did the owner reach out and try to resolve the situation. See the pictures. This is what $3000 of materials and installation looks like, and now I’m left to deal with it. And by the way, the website’s primary screen says, “Honesty, integrity, and Reliable Service with a 100% Money Back Guarantee”. I wonder if that will happen."

We don’t have a fireplace but were told that it’s important to clean the exhaust flue since we have gas heat. Downeast chimney explained that we have a direct vent gas furnace and since it doesn’t use the chimney, we don’t need to do anything. Did not try to sell us things we don’t need. "CUSTOMERS BEWARE! I never write reviews but have heard of others with similar experiences recently and want to warn potential new customers. Atlantic Chimney was set to do a fair amount of work on our chimney this fall. We had Atlantic Chimney out in the summer to provide a quote, after receiving a quote from another local chimney company. Our goal was to ensure that the defined scope of work was the same amongst both vendors. We should have known when they failed to show for the first appointment that we should have gone elsewhere, but they had great reviews and came highly recommended on a neighborhood Facebook page. Bill (owner) came and did a very comprehensive inspection and provided a fair quote. His experience and the company's high ratings made us choose them, and we booked for the earliest date available in the fall. After providing a hefty (but not uncustomary) deposit and following up with them the week before the start date, they no-showed for our scheduled installation date. Surprising as materials had already been dropped at our home in the week leading up to the installation. It took several calls throughout the morning and early afternoon to the office staff to find out that they planned to begin at 3PM- another red flag since it was a Friday afternoon. The team finally showed up. A very nice gentleman informed us that Bill had just called him and said they had to cancel the job. Another red flag- sending a foreman to cancel the job versus contacting us directly. After about 30 minutes of the team huddled out front of our house, Bill showed up, explained that he was too busy and overbooked, cancelled the job and gave us a check back for our deposit. Not having to fight with him for the deposit back was certainly a relief; however, leaving us in the lurch was an unwelcomed surprise. He proceed to cajole us with tales of working 7 days a week, wanting to retire, the office staff overbooking the team, COVID causing employee issues and more. Exactly what one wants to hear when a contractor is bailing on a job! In the end, we waited about 5 months for Atlantic Chimney to do the work, regularly followed up and day of they cancelled. They emailed a week later with an invoice which took several phone calls to the company to resolve and have proceeded to continue to call and harass us for random and factious reasons despite blocking numbers. If you value reliability and a completed job, run far from this company!"

One of their salesmen, Joseph Costello went on my roof and filmed the issues he saw that needed attention. He showed me a video on his computer of the inspection he had just completed of my roof. He then showed me his suggestion of what should be done and also had samples of the materials that FRS would use on the roof replacement.
