"Tim and his crew were a delight. He and his team repaired my wood floor and baseboards, a job that took extreme craftsmanship because the materials in my older home are no longer available. They came up with a solution and the finished job looked as if it was the original decor. Would I hire Tim and his crew again? You bet! I’m sending him a punch list of repairs with the reassurance that the job will be done with care and excellence. Thank you!"

"I purchased the deal around 10 pm and the provider called the next morning to inform me that the service is actually for cabinetry not carpentry. I have requested a refund as I need carpentry work done."

"As in my first job with James at the end of 2015, I indicated what jobs I needed done and he supplied a detailed list of cost separating out material from labor. We arranged for a date, which he met. He came did the work, cleaned everything completely. His costs are very reasonable. He is professional in his bids, paperwork, workmanship and follow through. I would recommend James highly. I will definitely use him again. I have already recommended him to friends. Great job, very pleased. He does amazing carpentry work, he built the stair rails for me, and they are beautiful."

"It went well overall! My brother got the remodeled bathroom that he wanted to have. Brandon was diligent in repairing all items that needed to be done before installing the ceramic tiles around the shower and the bathroom flooring. These repairs are only items that you can know once you start demolishing. Brandon did more I think than what he signed up for in doing the necessary repairs. He is good in what he does! Thanks, Brandon and crew!"

"fantastic - from the detail in the proposal to the execution on time on budget. They took the mantle off, removed and took away the old tile, figured out a way to dispense with some of the typical underlayment in order for the new stone hearth to come out flush with the floor, and installed the new tile. There was some basement reinforcement needed due to the workaround and they did that. Did a beautiful job - from carpentry to tile to painting. AND on their way out moved a ceiling light fixture and repaired the ceiling such that it was seamless. I am a fan!"

"The Doctor and his team were very professional and polite.  It was a difficult job because the spaces were smaller than usual and in some areas non-existent.  First, they carried away about two truckloads of debris found in there.  They put down the plastic and attached it to floor joists and insulated or sealed all of the openings to the outside. The outside openings to the crawl spaces were not square and they had to custom build the doors which look fantastic.  Everything looks great."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Wilmington, OH

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
