"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I contacted Rich from American Sentry by email late at night on a Wednesday and he was able to schedule us a home inspection the following Tuesday. His replies to our questions on scheduling and options for the inspection were always very quick and professional. Rich actually came to the house two days early to set up for a radon test for us which is located about 25 miles from Rothschild where his business is based. <br /> <br /> On the day of the actual inspection, Rich walked my wife and I through the entire process and let us know what to expect. As he was going through all of the things on the checklist, he continually showed us what he was finding and how those findings could impact how we felt about the property. He was very thorough with everything in the house well above and beyond the minimum expectations of a home inspection. Rich even had to excuse himself a few times during the inspection to answer his phone to answer questions from other inspectors in the area who needed his advice. While talking to Rich during the three plus hour inspection, we learned that he is actually the President and teaching director for the Wisconsin Association of Home Inspectors. <br /> <br /> There is no way we could have had a better experience with our home inspection with Rich from American Sentry. He found a few things with the property that we truly would not have ever known about until it was too late without his devoted diligence to his career. Hopefully, we won't be buying another home anytime in the near future, but we will be letting anyone who we interact with that is buying a home that American Sentry is the way to go with a home inspection in the Central Wisconsin area."

"The home and water inspections went perfectly. Very thorough and nice, we couldn't have asked for a better experience!!! The Radon test, however, went a little less smooth. They did not bring it the day of the inspection. We scheduled another date for them to drop it off. They did not show up at the scheduled time. We had to call and they came out 2 hours later. We were also unclear as to why they chose to put the test where they did. We thought they were supposed to go in the basement.....?"

"They were on time for the appointment for the estimate. They were on time for the actual work. They were respectful of my home as they worked. The basement looks good. They took the time to explain each step of the job. It will take a couple months before we are sure the water intrusion has stopped. As of now we are good. As of now the quality of their workmanship seems good. As I mentioned it will take a couple months before we are sure the water intrusion has stopped. But if their professional attitude and service is any indication I am confident we will not have a problem."

"I was looking for a home inspector that could meet my tight deadline to purchase a home. All of the home inspectors I had called at that point could not perform a home inspection for at least 3 weeks out.  The next one in the list happened to be Inspect It Right. Inspect it Right had numerous awesome reviews; however, it didn't mean much to me at the time (since I've seen numerous great reviews but end up with only mediocre service before). I called and Mike C. (the owner) picked up right away (btw, he was on his way to AZ for a vacation). I provided him my deadline and right away, he knew what his availability was and confirmed he could perform an inspection right after he returned from vacation (which was only a week away). He took care of getting the proper approval from the listing agent to perform the inspection, confirmed with us everything needed for the home inspection is set up, and even sent us a reminder for the home inspection. <br /> On the day of the inspection, we arrived at the home and noticed his car was labeled professionally. He was in his uniform and appeared professional. He walked us through the tests he completed so far and then performed the rest of the test with us there talking us through step by step. He made video recordings of everything we would possibly want to know about the home and talked about it in detail. He took pictures of everything as well (which turned out better than most realtor listing pictures). When the inspection was completed, he categorized items that were a safety hazard that needed to be repaired right away, items that were recommended for maintenance, and items recommended energy efficiency, etc. (very thorough and well organized report). He even provided a digital copy of all the video recordings for us to reference whenever needed. <br /> Here's the best part...once the inspection is done, he doesn't just leave you hanging with a report. He's available when you need him through a website that he sets up personally for each of his client. This allowed us to ask him questions that surfaced later after the inspection. His response time to these questions were also very fast (less than a day). <br /> Mike Carson is a very thorough and unbiased home inspector. Definitely the only home inspector I'd recommend to my family and friends. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Wisconsin Rapids, WI

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
