"Lazaro and his crew members, Fidel, William, and Issac, transformed our back yard from being a dirty and unpleasant hellscape where my wife and I never spent any time to being a beautiful and clean space where we can host parties, cookouts, and relax. The crew was extremely professional, organized, thoughtful, experienced, efficient, and communicative throughout the course of the project. I was quite impressed with their design and planning skills, extensive experience, and passion for their work. My wife and I own a small row house with a small back yard, which presented unique challenges to the crew: no back yard access except through neighbors’ properties. The crew handled this challenge well by being communicative and friendly with my neighbors and always cleaning up the space at the end of each working day. They always ensured that the fencing and hardscaping looked good from both sides of the property line, so that my neighbors were also happy! Another challenge was that an adjacent property is about 3 feet above grade and not pleasant to look at from our yard. Lazaro’s planning and vision for a beige brick half-wall, topped with wooden lattice flower boxes was a great finishing touch that provided a beautiful transition between the red brick paver patio and the elevated wooden fence to block the view of the adjacent property. The crew carefully planned their work from the beginning, so that there were no surprises at the end as the finishing touches were put on and the fence was erected. My wife and I are also confident that the money we spent on this work will be a great investment—not only for enjoying our new home, but also in the resale value some day in the future. "JP Landscaping wowed me from the minute they started work until the time they finished. I have truly never worked with a better contractor and crew than this group. We hired them to help correct a drainage issue on the side of our back yard that was allowing water flow toward our home during strong storms. Jose met with us and determined a plan to add a wall to hold the water and push toward the drainage system they added so that water would flow to the road and not toward our house. It turned out to be beautiful and functional! He has the hardest working and most professional crew!"

"My recently-purchased townhome in Reston backs to woods and the unfenced backyard was a *mess* with overgrown weeds & bushes, rampant poison ivy, and many fallen trees. My husband and I wanted to transform it into an area where our dog could roam free and we could make use of the space too. First step was to clear everything out, and then we planned to install a fence. I initially called ET Landscaping and Lawn Care for a quote just to clean out all the weeds, bushes, poison ivy, fallen trees, etc. Julio was happy to come out to provide a free estimate, even with COVID-19 going on. When Julio arrived there was some standing water from recent rain and he explaned that we'd have some drainage & erosion issues if we cleared everything down to bare earth and left it like that while we formulated a plan for sod, mulch, landscaping, etc. After a few more visits to discuss options -- first with me and then with my husband too -- we ended up getting a quote that included labor & materials for: yard clearing, removal of a few dead and/or heavily leaning trees, installing a French drain through the wettest area, re-routing PVC drainage pipes to the edge of the yard (originally dead-ended in the middle of the yard), about 600 square feet of sod, 30 cubic yards of mulch, and 160 linear feet of board-on-board fencing. While it was more than we anticipated spending on the backyard at this time, we felt we were in good hands with Julio & felt his price was fair. From contract signing to job completion was about 6 weeks. However, most of this time was waiting for wood! Due to COVID-19, there is a significant shortage of pressure-treated pine in our area & Julio had a really tough time finding enough wood for our fence from a single supplier. He kept me informed at least weekly (sometimes more often than that!) about his search. As soon as he confirmed that the materials would be available within the following 2 weeks, his landscaping crew came to do their portion of the work. The four-man landscaping crew was here 3 times: one day to clear the big stuff; another full day to clear all the smaller stuff, install the french drain, lay the sod, spread the mulch, etc.; and another few hours on a third day to finish up. The following week, his fencing crew (3 men and 1 woman) completed the entire fence in one day! Both of his crews worked quickly but didn't rush. Our yard looks so much better!! Julio and his landscaping & fencing crews were all friendly and knowledgeable about the work they were performing. They truly are professionals! I left them to their work while doing other things around the house or working from home. I never had any concerns about whether the work would be done how I wanted it or whether they were doing a good job. Also, we are not an end unit and the only way to access our property is through the yard of one neighbor who hates people walking through his yard. Julio had his crews use a pathway that was less convenient & not as easy to get materials/tools through, but disturbed our neighbor a little less. Thank you Julio!"

Ali, who came out to do the original estimate, explained the problem with the old drainage system clearly, which was resulting in moisture in one of the walls of my townhouse. "Yard By Yard Makeovers did a wonderful job. They arrived on time about 8am, did everything that we needed done, and were finished by 3pm. And this was no mean feat. The porcelaineberry's roots run deep since it's invasive. The mint was everywhere in one area, as was the pokeberry in another. And poison ivy is, well, poison ivy. They dug everything up and disposed of it. They pruned our crape myrtle and dug out the "weed tree." They transplanted two types of plants from one bed to another. They put down grass seed in two now empty areas. And they created two beautiful new plant beds, fertilized and mulched. They also helped me pick out which new perennials would be the most appropriate for planting, keeping in mind the sunlight that would be available and that we wanted to stick with natives or native hybrids. We are so excited about our new plant beds, as are our neighbors, who no longer have to look at two overgrown messes. We can't wait to watch over the coming years as the plants grow and flourish! We now have the best looking plant beds on the block."

"I used a large lawn maintenance company for several years. I changed because they literally ran while weed whacking around the yard. Twice, not once, but twice a worker weed whacked a flower bed even though edging stones were visible. Just Aeration is a small company, which does its work with care and pride. I have used them for several years now, and I would recommend them. I planted clover in my front yard because the space is shady, and Just Aeration is careful not to apply weed killer there. They show up when needed. Good company. They also blew the fall leaves to the street. Again, good job."

"We hired Northern Virginia Landscaping Virginia Landscaping to help with a drainage issue in our yard. Overall, they were outstanding. Specifically, - We invited several companies to assess the project and Northern Virginia Landscaping were the best in terms of showing up when promised, thoroughly assessing the issue, and suggesting a plan for how to proceed. It’s amazing how many other companies missed key issues, came up with half-baked plans, or didn’t show up at all. - When we retained Northern Virginia Landscaping, Ibi, the owner, worked closely with us to come up with a design that was both practical and aesthetic. - Ibi was very open to negotiation, helping us prioritize different parts of the project and evaluate trade offs between costs of various parts of the design. He also specifically sought our input into the design through the process. By the end, we felt like the design was our own. - Once the design was finalized, Ibi was clear about when the work would begin and how long it would take. When heavy rains delayed his crew at another project, he was clear with us about what that meant for our start date. Overall, the communication and customer service were excellent and Ibi made himself fully available when we had questions. - Once the work began, it went very smoothly and largely according to plan. We knew exactly what would happen when and on the few occasions there were unanticipated decisions needing to be made, Ibi consulted us on our options and quickly incorporated our feedback into the work. - We did not necessarily seek out the lowest cost option, but the prices were very reasonable given the high quality product. Just as important, the pricing was very transparent and there were no “surprise” costs once the project began. The work was completed on time, on budget, and on spec. Ibi also did a final walk through with us to make sure we were satisfied and to answer our questions. Overall, we very very happy with Northern Virginia Landscaping. They seem like an energetic young company that wants to give their clients great work and customer service at a reasonable price."

"Mark Simpson and East Coast Landscaping were great to work with on this project. At every step of the way, Mark worked with us to get what we want, and stay within the budget we had set. They were able to completely change our backyard from a plain old DC yard with a less than ideal deck, into an oasis in NE DC. They were able to take my original plans for our yard and create a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the DC work life and stay within budget while still adding in the little extras we came up with in the last few days. The value of the work done will add 2 times the amount spent on the project once we decide to sell and move on form this house. But that will be tough to do now that we have the backyard of our dreams. I would highly recommend East Coast Landscaping for any work you are considering getting done to your house. They are professionals and know what they are doing. It is well worth getting a quote from Mark on your next project, as they were not over priced and certainly not hard to work with through out the project. They are a quality company who valued us as customers. They where willing to come back a month later to do touch ups from the project, and fix our gate which we foolishly left open for the wind to slam shut and damage."
