"Awesome company! Mike came to my home and gave me a very thorough quote for the work I needed, he was very personable and honest. He was able to schedule my panel upgrade for the next day. Quentin(sp) installed my panel, was very efficient and kind! Also installed two lights in my home, did all of this in about 4 hours! Definitely recommend and will use for future electrical work."

"Chris was a great service man. After a thorough inspection of my power panel, Chris found the problem of power surges and recommended I call ONCOR to fix the service to the house. One phase had burned through the rubber boot. ONCOR promptly came and reconnected the power properly."

"Would give the technician James Fletcher 5 stars, and his manager 3.5 stars. Out of the high rate 3 companies we talked, this is the best value after all, not mentioning to our friends offered to do for free when they got time. James came on time, provided inspection from panel outside to attic. Friendly, knowledgeable, professional, evaluated and explained what should be done and what needs to be done. Appeared honest, trustworthy. He put every efforts to earn the business and created confidences from customers. We had 3 quotes from 3 different companies, and his quote was in the middle, but provided longer guarantee. The one provided the lowest quote did not really do the inspection as said, and just walked in our just-clean carpet and said his shoes is clean. The third one we'd just talked on phone was way overpriced. When asked lower the cost (to get closer to the lowest one) so that we could meet in the middle, James' manager indicated no intentions to build the relationship for future services, and in a way implied the cost of free inspection already the discount, as well provided incorrect guarantee info... James took extra efforts by offering to replace the clamp cover wires to the ground outside free, which he had pointed out earlier needs to be replaced asap because it was shaky. By this he earned the business. Upon agreed, he performed the job quick, clean, well. I would recommend his service, and keep his contact info for future similar service considerations."

"The panel replacement went way smoother than I expected, especially since they had to move it from a closet to exterior wall. We just bought the house, and it's a bit old, so it had a lot of malfunctioning light fixtures and old wiring. W3 took care of everything! I was very impressed with how thorough they were, in their work and in explaining everything to me. I also appreciated how professional they were; not in a stuffy way- just showing up on time and cleaning up and such. Seems like the really enjoy their work and take pride in it. I highly recomend W3 Electric!"

"Paul was upfront with all of the work that they were going to do. He communicated very welll and the employee's are dry knowledgeable. They replaced the electrical panel and informed me what I need to do before they could start. All the work went as they said it would. I will use them in the future."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Wylie, TX

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
