"

He seemed knowledgeable and business like so I hired him. When his crew came to do the work, he introduced me to the workers who would be doing the actual installation including one of his sons. He made sure when the introductions were made; his son gave me a good firm handshake and looked me straight in the eye. As the mother of four children I was impressed with the way Jon was teaching business communication skills to his child.

My property in Minnetonka is built on soil that has a large clay component. This factor has caused many problems for homeowners in my area because the instability of the land. Pietig and Sons carefully prepared the underlying surface. Within a year, two small sections were not weathering well and had cracked. Jon came to take a look, determined that what was happening was unacceptable and not up to his standards. He replaced them – at no cost to me.

The person doing the replacement work did a masterful job of removing the damaged sections, properly preparing the area and then calling for a cement mixer truck delivery when he was ready to install the concrete. When the large truck arrived he carefully used a wheelbarrow to deliver the concrete to the area and carefully blended the sections together. All seemed perfect.

Something strange happened within a few years. The sections that had been replaced were not holding up well. A concrete company, doing work for another homeowner in my area, came to take a look. He admired the work that had been done and complimented the skill of the craftsman who had done the job. Then he asked a question. He inquired about the concrete supplier and asked if I remembered the name on the truck that had delivered the product? He then proceeded to tell me a story that was the basis for his question and explained what he was sure was happening.

He told me he had once been a foreman on a huge concrete product for a hotel parking lot. Several years after the installation of the lot, the concrete began to chip and flake. The hotel’s attorneys filed a lawsuit against his company to recover the money they had paid him. They claimed the work he had done was inferior. He had worked h****** that project, was proud of the work he had done and was personally devastated because his skill and honesty had been called into question. After a lengthy investigation, it was determined shale had been added to the concrete mix delivered for his project. This had caused the driveway to “pop” and disintegrate. Claims and damages filed against the supplier were eventually settled and his work was vindicated. Sure enough, it was the same large concrete supplier that had delivered the product to my home. Shale “pops” were also evident in those two apron sections that had been replaced.

Even though those sections had already been replaced once, when Jon reviewed some photos I sent to him and heard the story about the other company’s experience, he said, “We will replace those sections again. It is the morally correct thing to do – I stand by my work.” He was also gracious enough to say that because the cement supply contractor was so large, it is not always possible to monitor every worker and batch of concrete mix. He realized that even in the finest companies, bad things could happen. What separates Jon’s thinking from others is his resolve to take responsibility and do right by his clients. If only his ethical standards could be taught to every business owner and to every business student!

So, fellow homeowner, if you are considering having any concrete work done at your home or business, I’d like to recommend Harold Pietig and Sons. This is a company that isn’t satisfied until the customer is completely satisfied. From the admirable way Jon chooses to pass along life lessons to his sons to the ethical way in which he treats his customers, I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I feel so fortunate to have hired Harold Pietig and Sons to do work at my home. This is a company that stands by its work and takes moral responsibility for running a business with the greatest integrity.

"For an uneducated landscaper like me, this went ridiculously easy. Installer came out to see what was needed, made a few quick recommendations, and installed the plants later, and I didn't have to be home to supervise it. My only concern was that I had to call back for instructions on what plants I got and how to take care of them as no educational material was left behind, but I promptly got a return call with what I needed.

"Damian and his crew did an amazing job on my basement. I had at least two other contractors flake out on me and I was thinking no one would want to tackle my basement. I had multiple floods in my basement and needed a lot of sheetrock repair. I also needed a stud wall, sheetrock and electrical run for a wall I had to tear down (sump pump and drain tile installed by someone else). They handled the job no problem. Communication was excellent, they showed up on time and I never felt like they were "in the way." The workers were always polite and they left a clean work space. If I ever need more work done I would not hesitate to call them again. I feel like I have my basement back."

"They were in and out in 1 day :). looked amazing, they always kept my yard neat (not cluttered with tools laying around everywhere). Always were very professional. there are 100 good things I could say about these guys. I'm absolutely using them for any concrete work I need done in the future. (Maybe a stamped and colored patio :0) my neighbors loved the look of our driveway and the speed that they got it done so much that both neighbors had their driveways done in concrete by the same crew."

"Two brothers starting their own business but grew up working concrete, they had a third younger brother helping on the tear out and set up and brought a crew of 9 in for the pour. All the guys that showed up clearly knew what they were doing. 4 1/2 cement trucks unloaded in just over 2 hours. 2400 square feet in one pour and no one needed to rush. Lowest of 6 quotes and I did not see them cut any corners or use lesser materials anywhere. Open to all my questions and suggestions, gave me options on materials, finish, layout etc. and I observed the whole poor. Polite and friendly throughout. I have already referred them to friends and family."

"Justin was awesome and we would highly recommend him to anyone! He was very thorough with the inspection and took the time to answer all of our questions. He gave us great details, as far as critical items and simple repairs, with everything he found. He also had great advice for simple maintenance of other items in and around the home. Justin is also a contractor, which is great, because that gives him the knowledge to not just know what to look for, but how to take care of it the correct way. He can also be hired after inspection to do certain repair/install work for you. Don't waste time researching other inspectors and price shopping. JJ Inspections is priced very well, and well worth the price!!"

FAQs for concrete foundation installation projects in Young-america, MN

A concrete footer is a relatively shallow column of concrete that sits below your foundation walls. Footers spread wider than the foundation, so they can support a higher amount of weight in critical spots, such as below walls. The exact dimensions of footers depend on the home, so larger structures need a larger footing.

To calculate footing size, you need to know the minimum width and depth for houses in your region. Multiplying the width by the linear footprint of the structure will give you the size in linear feet.

To convert linear feet into square feet, you can divide the width by 12. For example, an 18-inch footer is 1.5 square feet per linear foot. Multiply this number by the total in linear feet to get the answer in square feet.

Installing a pier and beam foundation costs $5 per square foot, or $8,000 to $15,000. This style is standard in homes built before the 1960s or those in flood-prone areas.

Concrete weight support ranges from 1,500 to 6,500 pounds per square inch, and footings need at least 3,500 to 4,500 pounds per square inch. Remember that your soil type, climate, and materials used will significantly affect how much weight your footings can hold, especially in certain areas.

It costs between $1,600 and $3,200 to pour a 20-by-20-foot concrete slab. These estimates are based on an average cost to pour a concrete slab of $4 to $8 per square foot. Be sure to discuss the specifics with a pro—they’ll give you an estimate of how much you can expect.

The cost to raise a house is between $3,200 and $10,000. This range refers to a form of repair that involves lifting the entire house to potentially remove the old foundation and build a new one or add to an existing one.
