"Joe Everette is the absolute best in the business. He is a master at keeping on time and on budget, while providing top quality work and materials. He does not cut corners, he is particular with every detail. We honestly have no complaints at all. We are so happy with our new home which is in the last week or so of construction. We give him 100% + grade AA for an awesome job. No matter how many times we bug him he never acts irritated or like he does not have time for us. If you want top quality, he's your guy!"

"I have been using Stuart Searcy for the past 7 years. He completely remodeled my house. Everything from knocking out walls to remodeling the kitchen and two baths. He is the most honest and professional contracter I have ever dealt with. Not only is he an expert in every phase of remodeling. He is always on time and he does the most beautiful job. He and his crew are efficient and fast. He will see to it that the job is done right. He is a perfectionist. Every time I have a problem he comes within 24 hours. He always returns my calls. He has such great people working with him. They are just as careful as Stuart. Needless to say he gets ?????????? from me a given. Suzan Sheridan <br />"

"Very punctual and very professional work.  Had his workers come in over several days and complete the work. Had a bedroom and bathroom re-done. They even helped us out on some other spots they saw that needed extra work of which we were doing ourselves and did it for no extra charge.  Very nice people to work with. <br />"

"We had some furniture stored in the basement. They had to move the furniture around. Dig up concrete to install a pump to take out waste for the kitchen and bathroom. They laid tile, roughed in the rooms, hung the sheet rock. They installed the plumbing in the bathroom and kitchen. They hung and placed cabinets and they even painted for us. They painted and prepared the house we sold for the buyers, and I think the price for this was included in the amount I stated."

"I called Walters Home Improvement as I needed an attic staircase installed. Lee was able to schedule and complete my job within 3 days. He arrived on-time and completed the job in about 5 hours. He helped me select the best place for the staircase and the installation and finished product were great. I would recommend contacting Lee at Walters Home Improvement for any project for which you need professional help."

"They were just very, very thorough. They want their customers to make sure they knew what they wanted. They did an absolutely first class proposal, which is excellent ranged, detailed and well-written. They put everything that they intended to do. They did a really good job on estimating and proposing. If I would be doing more remodeling, I would have them in."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Boone, NC

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
