"We had already called another plumber on Angies List (Hayes Plumbing) to have ours replaced. But when he arrived he stated he no longer gave the senior discount as he priced his units so low and he charges more for labor for units INSIDE the home, etc.  So I called Right Solutions Plumbing out of the phonebook and told him of our desperation. He has a good steady business and after hearing of our situation said he would be over that afternoon to look at  our unit and see how soon he could help us. He was the owner - James Ratliff - and he was so kind and professional over the phone.  HE estimated our job and went to get our 50 gallon BridgeWhite (or something like that--- a very good model they dont even sell retail at Lowes or Home Depot).  He came with his assistant, Jerome (really nice young man) and completed the job without any hangups.  By the way, he doesnt charge more for the unit being inside and said he never heard of that policy .  I commend his professionalism and concern for our situation.  He is such a nice guy and well represents his trade. I will use him anytime I need his services.  My husband also was very impressed with James.  He was very knowledgeable and a good communicator which nowadays, just  doesnt happen. <br /> He also has 24 hr emergency service and responds to all his calls. I give him my highest recommendation.  He doesnt low bid and then hit you with all the extras. Very ethical and good to know someone like him has a local business we can depend upon. <br />"

"Generally, it went well. I was told exactly what they were going to do before they did the work. The first day, I was taken aback at the price of the work, I assumed the original request would not be such an ordeal, so they allowed me time to consider the work and price while they fixed the toilet. I did decide to go ahead with Top Contender, and I am glad I did. They opened up the wall opposite the faucet, shower head, etc, and found rotten wood, which they replaced, cut away old pipes that were causing electrolysis, reinforced the pipes with staples(not sure of the technical terms), and patched up their work after replacing the shower head, faucet and spout. They were thorough. I had to add additional work to the kitchen faucet problem after cleaning under the sink and notice a crack on the pipe and ask if they would replace it after they fixed the faucet. The issue with the faucet was that it looked like it should have been stuck in the wall a lot further. I wanted to add tile on the wall behind the sink and the faucet stuck out of the wall. The exposed section was covered nicely and I am able to slide the piece, install the tile, and slide the piece back to the wall - problem solved. They did remove the plumbing underneath the sink with new, ABS p-trap assembly. Before they worked in the bathroom, they papered the floor from the front door through the bathroom, used any parts I had on hand, and aired out the bathroom during the entire time. They did clean up, better than most.. not perfect (but I would only notice that).."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Highland, CA

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
